Around 1920, the development of modern Korean novels is an important period in which middle and short stories are created, and novels that tend to emphasize individual life and discover themselves. Hyun Jin-gun is a representative writer of this period. His creation of "The Sacrifice", "The Empty House", "The Society Who Encourage Drinking", "The Fallen", "The Lucky Day", and "Fire" were all representative works of the literary world at that time. As a pioneer of modern Korean short stories, Hyun Jin-gun is not only a pioneer of realism, but also has outstanding ability in describing works. He is a writer who is good at creating stories that add flexibility by using unexpected techniques. The same period was China's 5.4 movement, where warlords were confused. Lu Xun, the leader of the New Culture Movement, is called the father of modern Chinese literature. Although not many of his lifetime's novels were quantitatively written, he portrayed a series of living characters, including AQ, Gonggi, and Yunto, with intense Enlightenment, a thorough semi-feudal spirit, deep ideological implications, and new and special art techniques. The characters who are very rich in Chinese literature provided an example and a rich experience for modern Chinese literature. Looking at the progress of Chinese literature, the achievements of Lu Xun's novels are multifaceted. He has made great contributions in various fields, including novels, prose, miscellaneous works, woodcarving, modern poetry, concrete poetry, masterpiece translation, ancient book teachers and modern studies. As the great cornerstone of modern Chinese literature, the few novels created by Lu Xun established a new form of Chinese fiction. Almost all Chinese writers developed different literary styles and styles based on the foundations founded by Lu Xun. This paper analyzed and studied the characters in the work through the time background and creative background of the work, focusing on the representative short stories of Hyun Jin-gun and Lu Xun. I analyzed and compared the short stories of Hyun Jin-gun and Lu Xun in 12 short stories. I recognized various characters in the work, and compared the characters in the 1920s to find out what they did in the face of their daily lives and hardships. Each character has a different way of responding to hardships, which includes the writer's view of society at the time, his sense of criticism, and the ideals he pursues. This study focused on this point and analyzed the world of the two authors' works. 1920년 전후는 한국 근대 소설의 발전에서 중편과 단편소설이 창작된 중요한 시기이며, 창작된 소설들은 개인의 생활을 중시하고 자아를 발견하는 내용을 담고 있는 경향이 있다. 현진건은 이 시기의 대표적인 작가다. 그가 창작한「희생화」,「빈처」,「술 권하는 사회」,「타락자」,「운수 좋은 날」,「불」 등은 모두 당시 문학계의 대표적인 작품들이다. 한국 근대 단편 소설의 선구자로서 현진건은 사실주의의 개척자일 뿐만 아니라 작품 묘사에 있어서도 뛰어난 능력을 가지고 있다. 그는 반전의 수법을 구사해 이야기에 굴곡성을 더해주는 창작에 능한 작가다. 같은 시기의 중국은 군벌이 혼란한 5.4 운동 시기이다. 신문화 운동의 주장인 루쉰은 중국 현대 문학의 아버지라 불린다. 비록 그가 평생 동안 쓴 소설은 양적으로는 많지 않았지만, 강렬한 계몽주의 사상, 철저한 반봉건 정신, 깊은 사상적 함의, 새롭고 특별한 예술 기법으로 아Q, 공을기, 윤토 등 일련의 살아 숨 쉬는 인물들을 그려냈다. 중국 문학을 대단히 풍부하게 본뜬 인물들은 중국 현대 문학에 본보기와 풍부한 경험을 제공하였다. 중국 문학 발전의 진행 과정을 보면, 루쉰 소설의 성과는 다방면에 걸쳐 있다. 그는 소설, 산문, 잡문, 목각, 현대시, 구체시, 명작 번역, 고서 교사와 현대학술 등 다양한 분야에서 큰 공헌을 했다. 중국 현대 문학의 위대한 초석자로서 루쉰이 창작한 몇 안 되는 소설은 중국 소설의 새로운 형식을 건립하였다. 거의 모든 중국 작가들은 루쉰이 창시한 기초를 토대로 서로 다른 방면의 문학 풍격과 양식을 발전시켰다. 이 논문은 현진건과 루쉰의 대표적인 단편소설을 중심으로 작품의 시간배경과 창작배경을 통해 작품에 등장하는 인물들을 분석하고 연구했다. 현진건과 루쉰의 12편 단편 소설을 분석하고 대조해 봤다. 작품에 나타난 다양한 인물들을 알아보았고, 1920년대에 나타난 인물들을 비교하며 그들의 생활상과 고난이 닥쳤을 때 어떤 조치를 취했는지 알아봤다. 고난에 대응하는 방식은 인물마다 다르게 나타나는데, 이는 작가가 당시 사회를 바라보는 시각과 비판 의식, 추구하는 이상을 담고 있다. 본 연구는 이점에 주안점을 두고 두 작가의 작품 세계를 분석하였다.
