중국의 6세대 감독인 지아장커와 한국의 봉준호 감독은 모두 사회 하층민에 초점을 맞춘 영화 작품으로 유명하며, 주로 현실적인 주제를 바탕으로 사회 하층민과 소외 계층의 실존적 상황을 조명하고 현대 사회 문제를 비판적으로 고찰한다. 두 감독은 각각 중국과 한국 영화계에서 독특한 스타일을 대표하는 감독으로, 국제 영화제에서 여러 차례 작품성을 인정받은 바 있다. 지아장커와 봉준호에 관한 개별 연구는 두 감독의 창작 스타일, 주제, 영향력에 초점을 맞춘 수많은 연구가 있었다. 그러나 두 감독의 작품을 직접 비교하고 두 감독이 영화에서 하층민의 사회적 서사를 어떻게 표현했는지를 탐구한 연구는 거의 없었다. 이에 본 연구는 비교 연구를 통해 두 감독의 유사점과 차이점, 그리고 그들이 하층민을 어떻게 다른 방식으로 표현했는지를 밝히고자 한다. 이 연구는 문헌 연구와 사례 연구 분석을 결합한 방식을 채택했다. 먼저 지아장커와 봉준호의 개인적 성장 경험, 창작 이력, 그들이 살았던 사회적 시대를 살펴봄으로써 두 감독의 창작 배경과 영향력을 밝히고자 한다. 본 연구는 크게 다섯 가지 측면에서 출발하는데, 첫째는 하층민 적 삶의 주제 표현으로 두 감독의 작품을 분석하여 빈곤, 상실, 딜레마, 욕망의 표상 등 하층민 적 삶의 주제를 어떻게 표현하고 있는지 살펴본다. 두 번째는 하층민 캐릭터의 묘사로, 두 감독이 여행자, 취약한 여성, 농민공, 청소년, 범죄자, 사회 소외 계층 등 하층민 캐릭터를 어떻게 창조하여 그들의 내면과 사회성을 탐구하는지 살펴본다. 셋째, 시각적 언어에 담긴 사회 비판 의식. 두 감독의 촬영 기법, 사진 스타일, 색채 구성 등 시각적 언어를 심층 분석하여 사회 문제에 대한 비판과 성찰을 이미지를 통해 어떻게 전달하고 있는지를 밝힌다. 넷째, 현실 사회를 조명하는 공간적 표현 두 감독이 모바일 공간, 유흥 공간, 자연 공간, 현실 공간, 이질적 공간 등 하층민 공간의 구성을 살펴봄으로써 공간을 통해 사회의 진정성과 다양성을 어떻게 제시하고 있는지를 밝힌다. 다섯째, 하층 이미지의 가치 창출에서는 지아장커와 봉준호 감독의 영화 작품이 사회 현실과 문화, 관객의 정서에 미친 영향을 살펴봄으로써 하층 이미지의 가치와 의의를 밝힐 것이다. 지아장커와 봉준호 작품에 나타난 하층민의 사회성과 서사 미학에 관한 연구를 통해 하층민 서사 표현의 공통점과 차이점을 살펴본다. 두 감독 작품의 배경과 방식, 의미를 분석함으로써 두 감독의 영화가 관객과 사회에 어떤 영향을 미치는지, 하층민 이미지가 현대 영화에서 어떤 가치를 창출하는지를 더 잘 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 이 연구는 사실주의 영화, 사회적 하층민 이미지, 중국과 한국 영화 연구에 새로운 이론과 방법을 제공할 것이다. Sixth-generation Chinese director Jia Zhangke and Korean director Bong Joon-ho are both famous for their film works focusing on the underclass social groups, which are often based on realistic themes, highlighting the existential situation of the little people at the bottom of the ladder and the marginalised in the society while critically examining contemporary social issues. Both directors represent unique styles in the Chinese and Korean film fields, respectively, and their works have been recognised at international film festivals on numerous occasions. There have been numerous individual studies on Jia Zhangke and Bong Joon-ho that focus on the creative styles, themes and influences of the two directors. However, very few studies have directly compared their works and delved into how the two directors represent underclass social narratives in their films. This is one of the motivations for this study, which hopes to reveal the similarities and differences between the two directors and how they present the underclass in different ways through comparative studies. This study adopts a combination of literature research and case study analysis. Firstly, it examines Jia Zhangke's and Bong Joon-ho's personal growth experience, creative history and the social era in which they lived in order to reveal the creative backgrounds and influences of the two directors. Then this study starts from the following five aspects: firstly, the presentation of the theme of underclass life, by analysing the works of the two directors, we explore how they present the theme of underclass life, including the representation of poverty, loss, dilemma, and desire. The second is the portrayal of underclass characters. This study focuses on how the two directors create underclass characters, including travellers, vulnerable women, migrant workers, youth, criminals, and the marginalised in society, in order to explore their inner world and sociality. Thirdly, social critical consciousness in visual language. This study analyses in depth the visual language of the two directors, including filming techniques, photographic styles, and colour compositions, in order to reveal how they communicate their critique and reflection on social issues through their images. Fourthly, the spatial presentation that illuminates the real society. This study reveals how the two directors present the authenticity and diversity of the society through space by examining the construction of the underclass space, including the mobile space, the entertainment space, the natural space, the real space, and the heterogeneous space. Fifthly, the value generation of the underlying images, this study will explore the impact of Jia Zhangke's and Bong Joon-ho's film works on social reality, culture, and audience's emotions, in order to reveal the value and significance of these underlying images. Taken together, the study of the sociality and narrative aesthetics of the underclass in the works of Jia Zhangke and Bong Joon-ho will reveal their commonalities and differences in the representation of underclass narratives. By analysing the backgrounds, methods, and connotations of the works of the two directors, a better understanding will be gained of how the films of the two directors affect the audience and the society, and how these images of the underclass generate value in contemporary cinema. This study will also provide new theories and methods for the study of realist cinema, social underclass images, and Chinese and Korean cinema.
