A study on the Effectiveness of the Transactional Analysis Program for Reducing the Parenting Stress and Improving Parent Efficacy of Mothers of Children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder Kam, Youn-Hee Department of Social Welfare, Graduate School Pusan National University Abstract The purpose of this study was to verify reducing the parenting stress and improving parent efficacy of mothers of children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder, using Transactional Analysis program In order to select the persons for the investigation, I selected mother of child visiting G child-adolescent psychiatry clinic in Ulsan transactional Analysis program was constructed ten session based four analysis of structural analysis, transaction Analysis, game analysis, script analysis and three theory of life positions, strokes, structure of time. In my study, Parenting Stress Index / Short Form (Abidin, 1990) and Parent Sense of Competence (Gbaud-Wallston and Wandersman, 1978) were used. To evaluate the effectiveness of this study, quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis were carried out. Quantitative analysis was used Wilcoxon Test for comparison of pre-post test and, Mann-Whitney U Test for comparison of experimental group and control group. The result of this study is as follows. 1. Effectiveness of program for the parenting stress was ineffective to both experimental group and control group. 2. In subscale of parenting stress, parental distress factor significantly decreased and was effective. but, parent-child dysfunctional interaction factor and difficult child factor was ineffective. 3. Effectiveness of program for parent efficacy was effective. 4. In subscale of parent efficacy, efficacy as parent factor and frustration and fear as parents factor was effective. but concern and interest about parents role factor was ineffective. 5. In qualitative analysis, self esteem and receptiveness were elevated and consequently it had an positive effect on child-rearing, reducing the parenting stress and improving parent efficacy, thus this program turned out to be effective. On the ground of the above results, for reducing the parenting stress and improving parent efficacy of mothers of children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder using the transactional Analysis program, I would like to suggest as follows. 1. In parenting stress of mothers of children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder, It is necessary to make up for effective method about parent-child dysfunctional interaction and difficulty temperament of child for educing the parenting stress. 2. For effective program making up for effective method about parent-child dysfunctional interaction and difficulty temperament of child, Investigation examination should be preceded. 3. It is necessary to provide a variable and in individualised service for mothers of children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder. 4. It will be necessary to provide service in order to maintain program effect and practically use in usual life. 5. In process of this program, many mothers reported couple conflicts aside from parenting stress of children with Emotional or Behavioral Disorder or couple program. Therefore it will be necessary to develop father program of children with Emotiona or Behavioral Disorder or couple program.
