The purpose of this thesis is to determine the improvement of primary school students' English proficiency, when using digital resources. The observed areas would include the listening, reading, and writing skills of English learning. This experiment was done using subjects, forty-four students, which were taken from 5thgrade classes at both, (N) and (G) primary schools, located in Cheongyang.
Recently, there has been an increase in the use of digital English resources. It is a very influential tool that is used, in means of English learning. When using digital resources, users that are self teaching or studying, have the ability to manage their learning pace, and interest and desires of study.
The use of digital resources through websites could also have a positive effect on learning English. Most English websites intentions are on enhancing the areas of skills in reading, writing, and listening by incorporating reading passages, writing sections, and audio for the users. Having these elements are sure to improve the user’s intelligence, fluency, and ability to speak English.
During the experiment, a questionnaire was given, with eleven questions, regarding teacher’s practice in English teaching, utilizing digital resources and how frequently it was used. Pretesting of listening, reading, and writing were carried out to the subjects. Afterwards, an experimental group and a controlled group were chosen, based on the results of the pretest.
After four months of treatment lessons, the English ability test was given to the class and the controlled group. As a result, the research outcome is as follow:
The class lesson using English digital resources were verified to have had a positive response on the primary school students with an improvement in their English proficiency. It also showed a drastic increase in the development of the listening skills of the students. As for the questionnaire survey, most elementary school English teachers reported that they do use digital resources at least once or twice per week. After doing this experiment, one should believe that digital resources will help improve primary school students' English proficiency.
