The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the productive skills in the randomly chosen eight current 1st grade of middle school English textbooks and activity books based on the achievement standards of 2007 revised national curriculum and to evaluate how well distributed and constructed the productive skills.
So, this study examined the current 1st grade of middle school English textbooks and activity books (focused on productive skills) based on the achievement standards of 2007 revised national curriculum to find the better way of future textbook.
For the analysis, this study researched theoretical background of 2007 revised national curriculum, necessity of achievement standards and related previous studies. Then, analyzed 1st grade of middle school English textbooks and activity books (focused on productive skills) based on the achievement standards of 2007 revised national curriculum.
The results of this study can be summarized as follow:
First, speaking activities are related 5 of all the achievement standards except 1 and writing activities are related all of the achievement standards. There is a small difference but both of speaking and writing activities are focused on the specific achievement standards.
Second, some textbooks and activity books are consist of speaking and writing activities including all achievement standards while others are consist of only 2~3 achievement standards.
Third, there is a big difference in percentage between textbook and activity book. That is, some speaking and writing activities presented in textbooks are not presented in activity books.
On the basis of the results above the following recommendations are suggested.
First, for future English textbooks, productive skill activities and the achievement standards are should be related.
Second, speaking and writing activities should be developed evenly based on each item of the achievement standards in the future English textbooks
Third, there is a need to think about the achievement standards for the suitability and revised for future English textbooks.
Finally, with more interest, further research and analysis on English textbooks related to the achievement standards are needed to be made.
