This study seeks to explore the changes that emerged after the introduction of Taekwondo pilot screening into the university entrance system and to predict future pilot changes. Through this, the purpose is to provide basic data to improve the quality of Taekwondo demonstrations and finally to present the right direction for Taekwondo demonstrations.
To achieve the purpose of this study, a group of 15 experts, including university professors, demonstration leaders, and demonstration judges, were selected using the Delphi Method to conduct a three-round survey. Based on this, we analyzed the importance of predicting Taekwondo demonstration changes, and the conclusions based on the findings are as follows.
First, after the introduction of the entrance examination system, the changes in Taekwondo demonstrations were very diverse and categorized into four factors.
Second, participants in the study mentioned structural changes, technical changes, conscious changes, and industrial changes as changes in future Taekwondo demonstrations.
Structural changes were expected to continue to increase in Taekwondo demonstration competitions, teams, athletes and leaders, and the age of athletes would be lowered. It is predicted that the quantitative increase in future Taekwondo demonstrations will continue, and effective measures will be needed to protect athletes and improve the quality of the competition.
Technical changes show technique that fuses with other sports, and training methods will also develop. It was predicted that dynamic access to athletes would increase and that new technologies would also increase. On the other hand, the deterioration of kicks unrelated to college entrance exams and proficiency in technique were relatively low in importance. In the past, if various technical developments were prevalent based on splendor, it was predicted that there would be a technical development based on skill proficiency and basics. The focus should be on developing the right technique and culture based on the essence of future Taekwondo demonstrations.
Conscious changes were expected to increase the frequency of athletes' injuries, their academic performance, poor understanding, and sports deviations, and, on the contrary, relatively low importance for win at all costs mentality, decreased Taekwondo basic spirit, and increased individualism. In the case of injury to athletes, it can develop into problems such as organization departure, so institutional supplementation to protect athletes and prevent sports deviations is necessary.
In industrial changes, media exposure was expected to increase, Taekwondo demonstration equipment was developed, and the size of the Taekwondo demonstration market was expected to increase significantly. Finally, this phenomenon is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the Taekwondo academies. As Taekwondo demonstrations were activated, the number of athletes and teams increased, which led to an increase in the size of the Taekwondo demonstration market. As this phenomenon is expected to continue in the future, it should eventually find ways to lead to the revitalization of Taekwondo academies.
Overall, as Taekwondo demonstrations became a college entrance examination system, many changes have been made in not only skills but also in the culture of competitions, supplies, systems and athletes, and problems have emerged. This can be seen as a temporary phenomenon that occurred during the rapid college entrance examination system, and to solve this problem, it will be necessary to return to the essence of Taekwondo demonstration of “exemplary” rather than fancy skills and think about improving quality rather than quantitative growth.
One of the results derived from this study is that participants in the study were aware of and wary of the problems caused by the college entrance examination system of Taekwondo demonstration. Since the quantitative increase in Taekwondo demonstrations has been proven through this study, and industrial possibilities are also high, identifying factors that can have a positive impact on future changes and applying them to the front-line site will contribute to the quality improvement of Taekwondo demonstrations.
