의과대학도서관의 조직에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현재 우리나라 의과대학도서관은 여러가지 형태로 조직되어 그 운영은
각 도서관마다 다르므로 도서관간의 상호협력 등에 어려움이 있다. 이에
본 논문은 조직이 잘되면 운영관리도 훌륭하게 수행될 수 있으리라는 가정
하에 우선 의과대학도서관의 현황을 조사하고, 그것을 바탕으로 바람직한
조직모델(기준)을 제시하고자 하였다.
연구방법으로는 미국의 의과대학도서관 기준을 기초로하여 설문을 작성
하였으며, 1992년 현재 의학도서관 협의회 현황에 수록된 의과대학도서관 31
개처를 조사대상으로 하였다. 그 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다.
1. 의과대학도서관이 설립되어 있지 않은 대학은 3개 대학으로 의학관계
자료가 중앙도서관에 포함되어 있는 대학이었다.
2. 의과대학도서관이 중앙도서관 직속으로 되어있는 대학은 17개 대학
(60.7%)으로 절반이상을 차지하고 있었다. 또한 중앙도서관과의 관계
에 있어 도서관이 독립되어 있는 대학보다 분관으로 되어있는 대학이
17%이상 더 많았다.
3. 의과대학도서관이 중앙도서관 직속으로 총장및 중앙도서관장이 통할을
하고 있는 경우 의과대학장이 도서관에 대한 어떠한 보고도 받지 않고
있는 대학도 조사되었다.
4. 의과대학 부속병원에 도서관이 설치되어 있으나 의과대학과의 관계가
독립되어 있을 경우 의과대학도서관과 그들 부속병원 도서관은 아무런
관계도 갖고 있지 않았다.
이상의 조사결과를 토대로 다음과 같은 조직모델을 제시하였다.
1. 의과대학도서관은 모종합대학과 동일 캠퍼스에 있다고 하더라도 완전
독립된 도서관으로 운영되는 것이 바람직하다.
2. 의과대학도서관장은 의학교육의 책임자에게 직속되는것이 바람직하다.
3. 의과대학도서관과 병원도서관은 수서의 중복과 의학자료가 어디에 있든
원할하게 운영하기 위하여 의과대학도서관을 중앙관으로 하고 병원도서
관들은 분관형태로 운영함이 바람직하다.
4. 부속병원도서관이 의과대학도서관과 '서울 - 지방'과 같이 원거리에 떨
어져 위치할 때에는 분관형태로 운영된다 하더라도 분산관리 방식이 바
람직 하다.
5. 중앙(모종합대학)도서관과의 관계에 있어, 모종합대학의 생명과학분야
이용자들에게 봉사하기 위하여서는 의과대학도서관이 독립되어 있어도
중앙도서관과의 유기적인 관계가 설정되어야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is a research of organizational structures of medical school
libraries in Korea which have been formed and administrated variously, and
usually have difficulties in cooperation with each libraries.
A questionnaires sent to 31 medical school libraries to survey the
current states of medical school libraries and to present organizational
model with the assumption that well structured one will cause effective
management and administration.
Methodology of this research was preparing the questionnaires based on
the Guidelines for medical school libraries in the USA and surveyed 31
medical school libraries listed on The Handbook of the Korean Medical
School Library Association published in 1992.
The results of this survey are summarized as follows ;
1. There are 3 universities having no medical school libraries. In this
universities, the materials related to medical science are holding in their
central libraries.
2. Universities where their medical school libraries are belonging directly to
central libraries were 17 and the ratio is more than a half (60.7%)of total
objects(31).
And with the relation to the central libraries, medical libraries being
managed as branch of central libraries were over 17% more than that are
being completely separated from central libraries.
3. In some cases, the deans of medical schools have never been reported
anything about their medical school libraries where they are belonging
directly to the central libraries and are under control of the presidents of
the universities or the directors central libraries.
4. When a medical library is located in the affiliated hospital independently
from medical school library there is no relationship between medical library
in the affiliated hospital library and medical school library.
In the basis of the survey, I've presented desirable organizational
standards of medical school library.
1. Medical school libraries are desirable to be managed and administrated
independently even if they are located within university areas.
2. Person who are responsible for medical school education is suitable to
take the jurisdiction of medical school library.
3. It's desirable to manage the library of affiliated hospital as an branch of
medical school library for proper management of medical materials and
avoiding ineffectiveness caused by duplications of resources.
4. When a affiliated hospital library is located on the remote site from
medical school library, it's recommended to be managed as a decentralized
system even if the library on the remote site is being managed as a
branch.
5. For the relationship with the central library of parent university, to give
benefits to those who are majoring in life science areas, medical school
libraries should have organic relationship with central libraries.
