The problems of Inclusion settings correlation and maintenance
of social relationships between children with disabilities and peers
have seriously issued.
This research are covering the role of music activities in
inclusion settings influencing on improvement of social interaction
between developmental delayed child and peers.
A boy with disabilities below five year old in a children center
whose social age of Portage Children Development Guide is
below 2 year old was selected with recommendation by the
teacher on the base of frequency of social interaction.
Study period from 14, August, 2001, to 10, October, 2001 for 9
weeks processed of free play 5 times a week.
With the study structure of single subject multiple baseline and
dependent variable of social interaction behavior using social
interaction observed recording paper by Stainback and
Stainback(1985).
Baseline and intervention were implemented from 14, August to
21, September for 6 weeks and maintenance phase followed up
four times when the date were collected two weeks after the
termination of the intervention.
The results of the research were followings. It is revealed the
social interaction of developmental delayed child is improved
through the music activities. The physical behavior joint attention
behaviors, and language behavior all were improved.
It is proved the music activities are related with improvement
of social interaction of included developmental delayed child in
free play time.
It also help the developmental delayed child obviously increase
physical activities and common interested behaviors with their
peers.
The research results show that there are correlation between
the music activities and social interactions of free play time, and
that the result of social interaction by music activities
continuously maintain of the intervention is terminated.
As a conclusion, this research gives as possibilities that the
music activities can be a intervention tool improving social
interaction of developmental delayed child in inclusion setting.
Therefore positive development and activation of the program are
expected.
