Titanium dioxide has excellent whiteness, tinting power and light scattering effect. Therefore, It was applied in various fields such as pigment, paint and cosmetics. To improve dispersibility and stability in product, titanium dioxide is coated with aluminium oxide. Also, it could decrease photocatalytic activity.
In this study, titanium dioxide is coated with aluminium oxide synthesized via hydrothermal precipitation method. As process parameters changed the amount of Al2O3, pH, temperature and reaction time. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometer, X-ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and differential thermal analsis, UV-Vis spectrometer. Also, photo activity of TiO2 coated with Al2O3 were analyzed by photodecomposition of methylene blue. Optimal condition of synthesis was conformed when amount of Al2O3 was 50 wt%, pH was 9, time was 1 hour. This study conformed increase of UV absorption and improvement of disadvantage such as high photocatalytic activity.
