드라마 <응답하라 1988>의 복고 콘텐츠와 대중음악 리메이크의 역할 : 서사적 기능과 편곡적 특징을 중심으로 = Retro Contents in Answer 1988 and the Role of Popular Music Remake with the Narrative Function and the Characteristic of Arrangement

국문 초록 (Abstract)

복고는 오늘날 하나의 트렌드가 되었고 대중예술 전반에서 자리 잡아 하나의 장르로 거듭나고 있다. 복고 콘텐츠가 패션을 비롯하여 영화, 예능, 드라마 등 미디어로 영역을 확장하여 하나의 트렌드를, 그리고 하나의 문화를 만들어 이끌어가고 있다. 복고를 소재로 한 드라마 <응답하라 시리즈>는 1980년대, 1990년대를 배경으로 설정하여 시청각적 복고 콘텐츠를 다양하게 사용하였다. 그 중 드라마 <응답하라 1988>은 케이블 사상 가장 높은 시청률을 기록하였고 음원차트 순위에서도 리메이크 음원이 상위권을 차지하며 1년간 ‘월간 차트’ 100위 안에 머무르는 저력을 보였다.
드라마 <응답하라 1988>에서는 다양한 복고 콘텐츠를 사용하였는데 그 중 청각적 복고 콘텐츠의 효과적인 사용에 주목할 만하다. 당시의 음악을 오리지널 버전으로 사용함은 물론이며 이와 더불어 대중음악을 11곡이나 리메이크하여 OST(Original Sound Track)로 사용한 것이 특징이다. 그리고 드라마 음악으로 사용된 리메이크 음원들이 앞서 언급한 바와 같이 오랫동안 많은 이들에게 사랑받았다. 이러한 현상은 그 시대를 경험한 8090세대뿐 아니라 미디어를 통해 복고 콘텐츠를 접하면서 새로운 문화적 경험을 하게 된 10대에게도 수용과 몰입을 이끌어냈음을 뜻한다. 따라서 오리지널 음악과 리메이크 음악을 나누어 드라마에서 어떤 서사적 역할을 하였는지 수용과 소통의 측면에서 분석하였다.
드라마는 단순한 가치체계의 일방적인 전달이 아닌 수용자와의 타협, 상호작용을 통해 구성되는 사회적 구성물이며 일상과의 만남을 통해 특정 시기에 공유되는 가치와 정서를 담고 있는 문화적 구성물이기에 상호작용에 기여하는 요인을 파악하는 것이 유의미하다. 대중음악 리메이크는 청각적 복고 콘텐츠로서 시청자와 드라마의 상호작용에 중심적으로 기여했음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 리메이크 음악이 파편화·분극화된 미디어 사용양상에서 세대 간의 장벽을 무너뜨리는 소통의 매개체가 되었음을 확인하였다.
대중가요 리메이크는 1980년대가 생소한 현 세대에게는 익숙한 목소리로, 80세대에게는 당시의 노래로 응답을 하고 서로 소통할 수 있는 계기를 마련해주는 역할을 했다. 이는 과거를 소재로 현재적인 재해석과 재창조 과정을 거쳤기에 가능하였던 것이며 그 과정에서 어떠한 변화가 있었는지 음악적으로 분석해볼 필요성을 제시하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 리메이크 음악의 서사적 기능을 가사와 내러티브의 상관관계로 분석하고 편곡상의 특징을 대중가요 연구요소에 근거하여 장르와 송폼(songform, 곡 형식), 화성, 멜로디, 음색으로 나누어 분석을 진행하였다. 그리고 리메이크 음악에서 효과적인 전달을 위해 사용된 음악적 도구를 살펴봄으로써 대중음악이 드라마 음악으로 어떻게 변화되었는지를 고찰한다. 이를 통해 앞으로 발표될 다양한 작품들에서 리메이크 음악이 오리지널 음악과 더불어 세대 간 소통과 시대적 공감을 불러일으키는 드라마 음악으로서 용이하게 쓰이길 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Retro has become not only a trend but also a new rising genre in popular art. It is easily confirmed that retro contents has expanded its boundary to over all media industry like film, entertainment program and TV drama, which makes it lead contemporary culture. Answer series, a series of TV drama dealing with the retro as a code, sets its background in 1980-90s and utilizes various visual retro contents. Among it, Answer 1988 recorded highest ratings, and ranked high in the music charts. Considering that the ranking had remained at the top 100monthly charts, it is obvious that this popularity lasted for a while. Among a variety of retro contents used in Answer 1988, the aspects of using effective auditory retro contents is very distinguished. Moreover it is worth to note that Answer 1988 uses its OST (Original Sound Track) in two ways: an original version and remake music based on eleven popular songs. And these had been loved quite for a long time. This results implies that retro contents was largely accepted not only by the generation who indeed experienced1980-90s, but also by the teenagers who experience new culture through media. Drawing a line between original music and remake one, this paper aims to analyze what function music do in narratives in terms of audience's acceptance as well as communication. TV drama is not a one-sided delivery of simple value system, but a kind of asocial construction based on the compromise and the interaction with the audience. In other words, TV drama is a cultural construction constructed by the daily encounter and its sharing in a particular time, accompanying with the value and emotion. Therefore it is meaningful to figure out what elements attribute to this kind of social and multidirectional communications. As a retro trend, popular song remake version contributes to the interaction with the audience and a medium of communication between the generations in terms of fragmented and polarized media usage. In other words, it gives the current generation who are unfamiliar with the1980s familiar voice, on the other hand, it offers the 1980s-generation an opportunity to communicate through music. This tactic is possible since with past as a theme, it goes through the reinvention and recreation process. In this process, it is necessary and worth to analyze what tools are used in musically. The purpose of this paper is to firstly, analyze the narrative function of remake music as a correlation between lyrics and narrative, secondly, the characteristic of arrangements in terms of genre, song form, harmony, melody and tone based on popular music analysing elements. Investigating the musical tools used to deliver its meaning effectively in remake music, this paper tries to trace how it has changed as a drama music, and ultimately hopes these tools be used in future works for making a communication field between the generations as well as a its sympathy.
