The number of international marriages has steeped for the past decade, thus dramatically increasing the number of immigrants living in Korea. It implies that now, we can easily encounter the immigrants on daily basis. Although the growing number of the multi-cultural families has caught both the governmental and societal attention, the lack of mutual understanding between the new immigrants and our society has remained, therefore leaving the multi-cultural families in dire condition. This study will explain that in order to help the multi-cultural families become the full members of our society, the government must enlarge and improve the literacy education for the multi-cultural families.
Our Korean language education for the multi-cultural families is still by and large rudimentary.
Even though our society has already changed into a multi-cultural one, the general awareness of the multi-cultural family neighbors has not changed accordingly. In addition, the government has only focused on the basic level of their both human rights and welfare in the past five years. It is crucial now to transform the rudimentary welfare policy for the multi-cultural family and concentrate more on how to improve the communication and cultural exchange between the local citizens and the multi-cultural families.
