In this research, we tried to arrange the publishing cultural aspects of Banggakbon(Block Print Editions) and make clear the characteristics in Anseong area from the late 19th to the early part of the 20th century. The publishing activity is the dynamic social and cultural behavior that create and communicate the intellectual property. For this reason, this research could be contributed to the understanding of Banggakbon's literary communication in Anseong area and the communication's changes of the times at the dawn of a modern times.<br>
Therefore, this research progressed in two part. Those are the joint research which is foundational and the individual research that is deepening.<br>
The joint research has four parts.<br>
1) Publishing location : To find out Anseong's identity as a Banggakbon's publishing location, we analyzed Anseong's transportation, markets, population and publishing materials through the product of geography, economy and regional study.<br>
2) Publishing condition : Anseong Banggakbon's publishing office, publisher and publications were examined and put to rights positively. We located where Anseong Dongmunri, Bukchon-seopo, Bakseongchil-seojeom, Sinan-seorim, Gwangan-seogwan, and Changsin-seogwan were. And also we found out publishers including Bak, seongchil and pressmen's individual information and made its photographs and documents. We collected 36 Anseong Banggakbon including novels and educational books. They are based on the printer's imprint and colophon.<br>
3) Publication's Database : The bibliography and publishing informations of Banggakbon including classic novels, printed classic novels and printed new novels are arranged on M.S. Access(Database program). This database that has over 1,000 items can be lined up by specific standard and be searched by keyword. It is useful for the future researchers, because it were recorded including locations of collection and call number.<br>
4) The Annotated Modern Language Edition of Novels in Anseong Banggakbon: We annotated and translated the novels of Anseong Banggakbon. One volume is including Yangpungun-jeon, Imjanggun-jeon, Jangpungun-jeon, Joung-jeon and Honggildong-jeon which are hero novel. The other volume has Samguk-ji, Simcheong-jeon, Jeokseongui-jeon, Jemamu-jeon, Jindaebang-jeon and Chunhyang-jeon.<br>
The Individual research was progressed by three researchers.<br>
Professor Choi, Ho-seok studied ‘the location of Anseong banggakbon’s publishing’ and ‘the development and characteristics of Anseong banggakbon’s publishing.’ In those papers, Choi researched the situation of Anseong banggakbon, the conditions of location and the regional boundary, transportation, markets and demand. And Choi divided the aspects of development in publishing by period. Choi analyzed the characteristics of publishing which are maximizing the profits and the manual trade in a family. Professor Lee, Jeong-won researched ‘the publications of Anseong banggakbon’ and ‘the novels of Anseong banggakbon edition.’ Lee arranged the Anseong banggakbon by publishing office and the publishers' individual informations. And Lee presumed the publishing conditions of novels in Anseong banggakbon through the new excavational materials. Professor Oh, Yoon-sun researched ‘the analysis and the meaning of the sinsoseol's database’ and ‘the relation between sinsoseol and gososeol.’ Oh introduced the fields of sinsoseol's database and drew out the meaning in publishing time, price, author and publishing office. And Oh studied the relation between sinsoseol and gososeol which is focused on the stepmother-type novels.<br>
Until now, Anseong banggakbon has not been researched its condition and evaluated properly, because it had been treated a epigone of Gyeong-pan(경판). But now our researches laid groundwork for the future work of Anseong banggakbon in regional study, publishing study and literature.<br>

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 19세기말 ~ 20세기초 안성 지역의 방각본 출판 문화의 양상을 정리하고 그 특성을 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 출판 활동은 한 사회에서 지적 자산을 창조하고 소통하는 역동적인 사회적 행위이자 문화적 행위이므로, 이러한 연구는 근대 여명기의 안성 지역과 방각본을 대상으로 한 문학적 소통, 그리고 그 소통의 시대적 변천을 이해하는 데에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.<br>
이에 따라 본 연구는 크게 토대적 성격을 지닌 공동 연구와 심화적 성격을 지닌 개인별 연구로 나누어 진행되었다.<br>
공동 연구는 네 부분으로 나뉜다.<br>
1) 출판 입지 : 방각본 출판지로서 안성의 정체성을 밝히기 위하여, 기존에 지리학, 경제학, 지역학 등 관련 분야의 성과들을 정리하고 현장에서 이를 확인하는 방법을 통하여 안성의 교통, 장시, 인구, 출판 재료 등을 분석하였다.<br>
2) 출판 현황 : 안성방각본의 발행소, 출판인, 출판물 들을 실증적으로 검토, 정리하였다. 안성 동문리, 북촌서포, 박성칠서점, 신안서림, 광안서관, 창신서관의 위치를 확인하고, 박성칠을 비롯 발행자와 인쇄자의 인적사항을 밝히고, 이를 사진 및 문헌 기록으로 남겼다. 출판물의 간기, 판권지를 안성방각본의 구별 근거로 삼아 소설류와 교양류를 포함 모두 36종의 판본을 정리하였다.<br>
3) 출판물 데이터베이스 : 방각본 고소설을 비롯하여 활자본 고소설과 신소설의 서지사항 및 발행정보를 M.S. Access(데이타베이스 프로그램)로 처리하였다. 1000여 건이 넘는 방대한 데이타베이스는 키워드 검색과 특정 기준에 따른 정렬이 가능하며, 소장처와 청구기호까지 명기되었기에 이후 연구자들에게 유용할 것이다.
4) 안성판 방각본 고전소설의 주해와 현대역 : 양풍운전, 임장군전, 장풍운전, 조웅전, 홍길동전 등 영웅소설류를 중심으로 한 권, 삼국지, 심청전, 적성의전, 제마무전, 진대방전, 춘향전 등을 한 권에 담아 안성방각본 소설을 주해하고 현대역을 했다.<br>
개인별 연구는 세 연구자가 진행했다.<br>
최호석 교수는 ‘안성의 방각본 출판 입지’와 ‘안성판 방각본 출판의 전개와 특성’을 살폈다. 안성의 방각본 출판 입지에서는 안성 방각본의 현황과 입지 선택의 이유와 안성의 지역적 범위, 교통, 시장과 수요 등을 다루었다. 출판의 전개 양상을 시대별로 나누고 그 출판 특징으로 상업적 이익을 극대화하기 위한 출판 전략과 가내수공업적 출판 방식을 분석했다. 이정원 교수는 ‘안성판 방각본 출판 현황’과 ‘안성판 방각본의 소설 판본’을 살폈다. 안성판 방각본을 방각소별로 정리하고 그 출판 업자의 인적사항을 정리했다. 또, 새 발굴 자료들을 근거로 안성판 방각본 소설 판본의 출판 양상을 추정하였다. 오윤선 교수는 ‘신소설 서지 데이터베이스의 분석과 그 의미’, 그리고 ‘고소설과 신소설의 관련성 연구’를 발표하였다. 본 연구진이 구축한 신소설 서지 데이터베이스의 필드를 소개하고 그 의미를 출판 시기, 가격, 작가, 발행소 등으로 나누어 추출했다. 또한 신소설과 고소설의 관련양상을 계모형 가정소설을 중심으로 공유하는 측면과 차별되는 측면을 살폈다.<br>
이상의 연구를 통하여 그간, 경판의 아류로만 취급되어 그 현황이 제대로 정리되지 못하고 이에 따라 그 가치마저 정당하게 평가되지 못했던 안성판 방각본은 이제 지역학, 출판학, 문학 분야에서 새롭게 연구될 수 있는 토대가 상당히 마련되었다고
