In the past, the exchange of knowledge between Korea and China was carried out almost always in china. However, as cultural exchange through envoys became important during the period of Joseon dynasty in Korea and Ming dynasty in China, more poems were exchanged between the Korean scholar-officials and Chinese envoys. And, Hwang Hwa Collection『皇華集』 and many books about Joseon were published.
The growning concern of Ming over Joseon grew in the following steps. The scholar-officials of the late Goryeo period were proud of their own country. During early Joseon dynasty, Kwan Kun(權近) was famous for his poems in China. Ming envoys requested the poetry and prose of Kwan Kun(權近). Ye Geom(倪謙), a Ming envoy in the last year of King Sejong of Joseon dynasty, wrote his experience in Korea in Yohaepyon 『遼海編』. Korean scholar-officials were dissatisfied with Chinese attitude shown in editing of the Yohaepyon 『遼海編』. Jin Gam(陳鑑) demanded too much to Joseon Dynasty Ming envoys in the reign of King Sejo of Joseon dynasty. To reflect the position of Joseon and meet Jin Gam's request, Hwang Hwa Collection was made in Joseon Dynasty.
Hwang Hwa Collection『皇華集』 was published in 46 volumes for 200 years. Dong Wol(董越), a Ming envoy in the reign of King of Seongjong, requested Joseon Customs Collection(朝鮮風俗帖) claiming himself as an editor of Chinese History. Later he wrote Joseonbu <朝鮮賦> using the Joseon Customs Collection(朝鮮風俗帖) as a source material. After that, many books about Joseon Dynasty was published. However, when Ming was replaced by Qing dynasty, the customs that the Korean scholar-officials and Chinese envoys and the related publication were stoped.

조선사신의 명나라에서의 활동이 소극적인 반면 명나라에서 明使들은 조선으 ㅣ경험을 바탕으로 『遼海篇』,『朝鮮記事』,『奉使錄』,『朝鮮賦』,『使朝鮮錄』 등 조선 관련 기록들을 많이 남겼으며 조선에서는 明使와의 酬唱을 담은 『皇華集』을 오래도록 간행하였다. 明使들은 왜 조선에 대해 이렇게 큰 관심을 보이게 되었을까? 조선에서 『皇華集』을 간행한 것은 이들의 관심에 부응한 처사로 여겨지는데 이를 어떻게 평가하여야 할까? 그리고 그 영향은 어떠했을까? 이런 점들이 본고에서 살피려는 점이다.
