The Development and Evaluation of an Emotional Competence Program Using Picture Books.
This study develops and evaluates an emotional competence program using picture books. This program is for five-year-old children in kindergartens, and focuses on the integrated activities with picture books which have emotion related statements. The program is integrated into the daily activities in accord with themes of kindergarten curriculum. The components of emotional competence are self-emotion recognition, recognition of emotion in others, emotion vocabulary, empathy, emotional expression and emotional regulation. The result reported in this study finds the program to be effective in improving young children's emotional competence.
