국가수준에서 개발된 교육과정의 실행 양상에 대한 이해 : 초등학교 국어과 사례를 중심으로 The Case of Korean Language Course = An Understanding of National Curriculum Implementation in School Levels

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 국가수준에서 개발된 교육과정이 실제 학교현장에서 어떻게 이행 혹은 적용되는지 그 실행과정을 들여다보고자 한 것이다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 그 구체척인 사례로서 제 7차 교육과정에서 새로이 도입한 심화·보충형 수준별 교육과정이 적용되고 있는 초등학교 국어과를 선정하였다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 이 연구는 첫째, 국가수준에서 개발된 교육과정이 교사들에 의해 실행되는 양상을 이해하는 데 있어서 취할 수 있는 관점을 탐색해 보았다. 둘째, 국가수준에서 개발된 새 교육과정의 도입 의도를 이해하기 위해 국가수준의 문서를 분석해 보았다. 셋째, 새 교육과정이 교실에서 교사들에 의해 어떻게 실행되고 있는지를 검토해 보았다. 교육과정 실행에 대한 관점으로는 널리 알려진 '충실도' 관점과 '상호적응' 관점이 논의되었다. 국가수준에서 개발된 새 교육과정의 의도를 파악하기 위해서는 교육과정 총론, 국어과 교육과정, 국어과 교과서 등이 분석되었다. 그리고 교사들의 실행 양상을 파악하는 데 있어서는 초등학교 5학년 교사들을 대상으로 한 자기기술 및 면담 자료를 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 국가수준에서 개발된 교육과정은 그것이 실제로 적용되는 맥락에서 교사들에 의해 해당 교실 학생들의 학습능력 및 흥미 정도, 교사들의 교직 경험에서 유래한 전문적 판단 등에 따라 해석 혹은 적응의 과정을 거치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 점은 국가 교육과정을 평가하거나 차기 국가 교육과정을 개발함에 있어서 상호적응의 관점이 좀 더 적극적으로 반영되어야 함을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The 7th revised national curriculum in Korea has been recently introduced to schools. One of the major changes found in the revised national curriculum is to introduce 'in-depth and supplementary differentiated curriculum' in some subject matters. The purpose of this study is to examine how 'in-depth and supplementary differentiated curriculum' is being implemented in school levels. In more detail, the aims of the study are to:
1) Examine some theoretical views, fidelity and mutual adaptation, that can be employed to understand the actual implementation of the national curriculum in class levels.
2) Analyse some national curriculum documents, such as the general guidance of the national curriculum, Korean language curriculum and Koran language textbooks, in order to identify the formal intention of the government.
3) Explore how teachers implement the national curriculum in class levels. To achieve the purpose of the study, teaching cases in the classroom gathered from five elementary school teachers are analysed. For the analysis of the cases, self reports and interviews are adopted.
The result found in the study largely indicates that teachers tend to adapt the national curriculum to fit classroom situations such as learning competency, students' interests and teachers' theory in practice. It is suggested that a view of mutual adaptation needs to be taken into account significantly in developing and evaluating the national curriculum.
