This article aims at objectively describing the realities of translation problems and translation policies in modern Korea. Translation means translating articles from another language into another language and plays a key role in knowledge circulation and exchange. The use of this term is based on the JOSEONWANGJOSILROK(朝鮮王朝實錄), and it appears from before the 15th century, and it appears that the terms 飜譯, 翻譯, 繙繹 seem to have been mixed in Chinese characters. In addition to that, the modern translation scope included translating foreign language into Korean and translating into Korean-style Chinese text(漢文).
Translation has an important function in communication and knowledge exchange. In this regard, various translation problems arise in the case of the modern age, where knowledge circulation has become active, and policy debates are emerging to solve them. However, the solution to this problem is different in modern China, Japan, and Korea. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that this is a major phenomenon in relation to the policy and translation issues that emerged at this time, such as the compilation of Park Mun-guk’s(博文局) compilation the MANGUKJEONGPHYO(萬國政表). In addition, the fact that there are many translations in the textbooks of translated editions as well as the introduction of modern-style school system can be regarded as one of the national countermeasures.
