투고논문 : 남파(南坡) 홍우원(洪宇遠)의 논설류 산문 연구 = The Study on Editorial Prose of Nampa(南坡) Woo-Won Hong(洪宇遠)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

남파(南坡) 홍우원(洪宇遠)은 인조(仁祖)에서 숙종(肅宗) 연간에 활동한 문인 관료이다. 홍우원의 문집인 『남파집(南坡集)』은 시와 상소문이 대부분의 비중을 차지하고, 기(記)·설(說)·서(序) 등의 산문 작품의 편수는 적은 편이다. 하지만 홍우원은 그의 논설류 산문에서 당대 사회 현실에 대한 비판의식을 단편적이고 직설적으로 드러내기보다는 각종 문학적 장치를 통하여 효과적이면서도 흥미롭게 표현하였다. 이에 본 논문에서는 홍우원의 논설류 산문을 연구대상으로 하여 그 소재와 서술방식을 중심으로 분석을 해보았다. 홍우원의 논설류 산문 중 「노마설(老馬說)」에서는 늙은 말과 주인이 나누는 대화를 중심구도로 하여 필요할 때는 취하다가 쓸모가 없어지면 버려버리는 인정세태에 대한 비판의식을 서술하였고, 「목근침설(木根枕說)」에서는 목침이라는 일상의 소재에서 이야기를 시작하여 위정자가 인재를 알아보고 등용하는 문제에까지 논의를 확대해 갔다. 「각설(角說)」에서는 뿔이 난 말과 고양이라는 기형의 동물을 소재로 하여 당대 정치 상황을 비판하였고, 「백흑난(白黑難)」에서는 선과 악을 상징하는 색깔인 백(白)과 흑(黑)이 서로 벌이는 문답을 통하여 옳고 그름의 가치관이 전도된 현실세태에 대한 비판과 풍자를 담았다. 이들 작품에서는 버려지는 늙은 말, 나무등걸로 만든 목침, 뿔이 난 말과 고양이, 흑색과 백색 등의 친근하거나 흥미를 끌만한 소재를 통하여 독자의 공감을 불러일으켜서 주제를 효과적으로 표출하였다. 또한 주인과 늙은 말 사이의 대화, 백색과 흑색이 벌이는 허구적 문답을 가설하여 답변자의 발언 속에 작자의 목소리를 담아내어 주제를 논리적이면서도 설득력 있게 드러내었다. 그리고 당대 현실에 대한 구체적이고 직접적인 비판을 하는 것이 아니라 비유와 기탁을 통하여 주제를 우의적으로 표현하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Nampa Woo-Won Hong(1605~1687) is a literary bureaucrat who acted in Sukjong ~Injo. 『Nampa collection』, Woo-Won Hong``s work collection, is largely comprised of poems and Sangsomun and the number of prose works such as Gi, Seol, and Seo. However, Woo-Won Hong expressed the criticism consciousness on the social reality of that time in an effective and interesting way through all kinds of literary devices rather than revealing it in a fractional and straightforward manner. Hereby this paper analyzed Won-Woo Hong``s editorial prose focusing on its material and descriptive way. 「Nomaseol」 among Woo-Won Hong``s editorial prose described the criticism consciousness on the social condition that something is thrown away if it becomes useless by focusing on the conversation the old horse and master have, and 「Mokgeunchimseol」 expanded the discussion with the deep subject which could alarm the society by starting the story from the routine material of wooden pillow. 「Gakseol」 criticized the political situation of that time by considering the horned horse and cat as a material, and 「Baekheuknan」 contained the criticism and satire on the reality that the sense of values of right and wrong was reversed through Byeonnan that black and white fought. These works expressed the subject effectively by bringing about the readers`` sympathy through the intimate material such as thrown old horse, wooden pillow made of tree, white and black colors. Also, it revealed the subject logically by hypothesizing the fictional question and answer of white and black, question and answer of old horse and master. And it expressed the subject indirectly through the metaphor and deposition rather than referring to the reality of that time in a specific and direct way.
