This paper first examines the history of Lee Won'(李源)s ancestors, the process of Hapcheon Lee clan(陜川李氏) settlement in Sancheong(山淸). Also examines the life of Lee Won, which influenced the balanced development of the studies of Gyeongsang- jwa-do and Gyeongsang-uhdo. Then I looked at his influence on Hapcheon Lee Clan.
Cheonghyangdang is a descendant of Hapcheon Lee Clan and the grandson of Lee Gye, who settled in Baeyang-ri(培養里). He learned from his father, Lee Seung-moon(李承文), and succeeded to his family studies. He passed state examination examination in 1533, but did not care for office. So he returned to his hometown and built Cheonghyangdang(淸香堂) and Gusajae(九思齋) and lived in seclusion.
Lee Won always cultivated himself in a way that faithfully exercised his spirit, and he thought that if he used this method, he would not be in a position to seek for the lost mind(求放心). He thought that reducing greed was the key of cultivating the mind. So he was wary of being greedy even when he was studying. He emphasized this spirit to his son Lee Kwang-gon(李光坤) and nephew Lee Kwang-woo(李光友).
Lee Won had the deepest exchange with Nammyeong(南冥) and Toegye(退溪). Lee Won thought Nammyeong was a friend who understood me, and about Toegye, he thought he was a friend who understood what he out from society. In addition, Lee Won interacted with the disciples of Nammyeong and Toegye. Yeonam(燕巖) Park Ji-won(朴趾源) thought that Lee Won influenced the academic development of the two by interacting with Toegye and Nammyeong. And Yoo Han-joon(俞漢雋) evaluated that Lee Won built his own academic world without being absorbed by either Toegye or Nammyeong.
Lee Won provided an opportunity for Lee Kwang-gon and Lee Kwang-woo to study from Nammyeong and Toegye. Lee Cheon -gyeong(李天慶) was also affected by Lee Won's studies while studying at Gusajae. Since then, among the descendants, figures working in Deokcheonseowon Confucian Academy(德川書院) have been produced. From this, we can see that they were greatly influenced by Lee Won.
