강한 사회학자 결속, 약한 사회학적 지향 ― 학술지<사회와 역사>에 나타난 한국 사회사/역사사회학의 분과성과 학제성(2008-2018) = Strong Ties, Weak Orientations of Korean Historical Sociology: Society and History (2008-2018) as Orthodoxy and Interdisciplinary

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 학술장의 분과성과 학제성을 이론화하고, 한국 사회사/역사사회학이라는 학술장에서 분과성과 학제성이 어떻게 구조화되어 있는지를 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 한국 사회사/역사사회학은 한국근현대사의 여러 사건과 그에 관한 서사와 담론을 분석, 설명하는 사회학의 한 세부 분야이자, 사회학이라는 분과 학문 분야 외부의 연구자들이 한국근현대사에 관한 연구를 수행하는 학제 연구의 장이다. 이는 사회사/역사사회학이 내적으로는 사회학이라는 분과 학문 속에서 이론적, 방법론적 정통을 둘러싼 투쟁으로 구조화된 장이면서도, 외적으로는 사회학 이외 학문 분야에 의해 관계적으로 형성되는 장 사이의 공간이라는 점을 가리킨다. 사회사/역사사회학이 어떤 방식으로 분과성과 학제성에 의해 구조화되었는지를 보여주기 위해 학술지 <사회와 역사> 2008년의 77호부터 2018년 120호 사이 발표된 381편 논문의 저자, 인용 문헌의 유형과 숫자, 주요어와 발표자 연결망, 인용한 학술지의 학문 분야 등을 분석하였다. 분석 결과는 식민주의, 냉전 등 20세기 한국 근현대사회의 변동을 연구하는 사회학자들이 <사회와 역사>의 주류 연구자인 반면, 이들 연구자들이 인용하는 문헌의 유형과 분야가 사회학뿐만 아니라 여타 사회과학 제 분야, 역사학, 어문학을 아우르는 경향이 있음을 보여준다. 이 결과를 토대로, 이 글은 한국 사회사/역사사회학의 학술장이 사회학 연구자들의 강한 결속이라는 분과성과 약한 사회학적 연구라는 학제성을 동시에 가진 특징이 있다고 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigates how struggle for disciplinary citizenship in sociology melds with interdisciplinary approaches to sociology in the field of Korean historical sociology. It analyzes how these two aspects counterintuitively manifest in the academic journal Society and History from 2008 to 2018. As a leading journal for historical sociology in South Korea, Society and History provides evidence of the evolutionary changes in the field and presents substantial evidence of sociology as an interdisciplinary field that weds the ideas of trained sociologists and non-sociologists. As a field marked with the struggle against the theoretical and methodological orthodoxy characteristic of the mainstream sociology but also the product of intellectual cross-disciplinary relationships with humanities, Korean historical sociology has proposed explanatory frames and perspectives for understanding 20^th century Korean society. To illustrate the coexistence of both disciplinary citizenship and interdisciplinarity, the study analyzed the authors, the types and numbers of cited literature, the keywords, the author networks, and the maps of cited journals of 381 papers published in Sociology and History between the 77^th issue and the 120^th from 2008 through 2018. The analysis finds that trained sociologists (with PhDs in sociology) who research on 20th century Korea focus primarily on colonialism and the Cold War make up the core research group. However, the works that they cite are not necessarily oriented toward sociology and in turn the journal Society and History performs a brokerage role linking sociology to other social sciences and humanities. Based on these results, the present study suggests that historical sociologists in South Korea find unity topically. At the same time, historical sociology as an academic discipline in the country remains weakly oriented to sociology inwards but instead directs outwards.
