대학 글쓰기 교육과 연구 과제 = College Writing Education and Research Tasks : To Expand Communication and Discussion

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 대학 글쓰기 교육과 연구 분야에서 소통과 토론의 기능을 강조하기 위해 작성되었다. 미국의 글쓰기 연구를 보면 글쓰기 교육과 연구의 발달은 수많은 논쟁과 토론을 통해 이루어졌다. 우리가 잘 아는 ‘형식적 접근－과정 중심적 접근－사회 중심적 접근’과 같은 글쓰기 교육의 관점 역시 수많은 논쟁과 토론의 결과로 만들어진 것이다. 학술적인 담론은 논쟁과 필연적인 관계를 가진다. 논쟁은 대립을 통해 형성되지만, 소통을 통해 유지되기도 한다. 소통과 대립은 새로운 담론을 만들어내고, 새로운 담론은 새로운 학술적 진보를 가져오게 된다.
이와 반대로 한국의 글쓰기 교육 현장은 생산적인 소통과 토론이 부족하다. 글쓰기 교수자와 연구자들은 글쓰기 교육과 이론에 관한 소통과 토론을 기피한다. 각자 자신의 영역에 안주하거나, 아니면 교육과 연구를 분리하여 생각하기도 한다. 이와 같은 소통 부재는 과정 중심 방법에 대한 검증이 없다는 점과 논증적 글쓰기 교육에 관한 토론이 부재했다는 점을 통해 잘 나타난다.
그래서 이 논문에서는 큰 이론보다 작은 이론에 관한 논쟁에 주목해야 한다고 주장한다. 예컨대 수정(revision)이나 독자(audience), 교수학습방법(teaching methods), 담화분석(discourse analysis), 평가(assessment), 장르(genre), 읽기와 쓰기(reading and writing), 글쓰기와 컴퓨터(writing and computer) 등 좁고 세밀한 분야들은 매우 실제적이고 유용한, 그리고 학술적인 논쟁이 가능한 영역으로 볼 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 작은 이론에 관한 소통으로 담화 분석과 글쓰기 평가 영역을 살펴본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is written to emphasize the function of communication and discussion in the field of college writing education and research. According to U.S studies of college writing, the development of writing in education and research were carried out by number of debates and discussions. As we know, educational point of view in writing education such as formal central approach, process central approach and social central approach is also made as a result of lots of debates and discussions. Academic discourse and debates has an inevitable relationship. The debate will be formed by conflict and will be kept by communication. Communication and conflict creates a new discourse and it brings a new academic progress.
On the contrary college writing education in Korea has a lack of productive communication and debates. Writing instructors and researchers don’t want to communicate and discuss writing education and theories. They only study their fields and they should think about separating education and research. Like this the lack of communication shows that they don’t discuss process central and academic writing.
Therefore this study argues for focusing on the smaller rather than the larger theoretical debates. For example revision, audience, teaching method, discourse analysis and writing and computer as narrowed and detail fields are practical and useful. They can be seen as a possible area that is an academic debate. This paper shows writing assessment areas and discourse analysis that belong to the small theory it is possible to communicate.
