1990년대 한국 텔레비전 드라마의 변천과 <질투>(MBC, 1992)의 위상 = The Changes of Korean Television Drama in the 1990s and the Status of Jealousy(MBC, 1992)

Jealousy is a new style of television drama in the 1990s and acquires historical meaning. Unlike previous television dramas, Jealousy was evaluated as new by presenting a light relationship beyond melodramatic development. In addition, it was pointed out both novelty and limitations in that it reflected the consumption culture as it was while actively appearing in the work. However, it should not be missed that behind the love narrative of Jealousy is the drama creation period of the main character's mother. It can be seen that the original novel and the perception of the genre of 'trendy drama' introduced from Japan are complexly linked here. Therefore, it is necessary to look at the problem consciousness that Jealousy is taking in the original novel, and to look at the self－consciousness that it has as a television drama. It adds to the concern about a relatively new format called 'miniseries'. Through this, it is possible to reconsider the allegations of plagiarism against Japanese dramas that have been continuously raised by Jealousy. In terms of including the status of popular narratives transitioning from novels to television dramas, Jealousy already shows the peculiarity of Korean television dramas.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

<질투>는 1990년대 등장한 새로운 방식의 텔레비전 드라마로 화제를 모았다. 이전까지의 텔레비전 드라마와 달리 <질투>는 멜로드라마적 전개를 벗어난 가벼운 연애 관계를 제시함으로써 새롭다는 평가를 얻을 수 있었으며, 당시 트렌드의 적극적인 활용으로 소비문화를 동시대적으로 제공한다는 점에서 참신함과 한계를 동시에 지적받기도 했다. 그러나 <질투>의 연애 서사의 다른 한 축에는 주인공 어머니의 드라마 각본 창작기가 등장하고 있으며, 여기에는 원작 소설과 일본으로부터 유입된 ‘트렌디 드라마’라는 장르에 대한 인식이 복합적으로 결부되어 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 <질투>가 원작 소설에서 취하고 있는 문제의식과 텔레비전 드라마로서 가지는 자의식을 살펴보면서, ‘미니시리즈’라는 비교적 새로운 포맷에 대한 고민을 더해 어떤 서사가 탄생했는가를 분석할 필요성이 제기된다. 이를 통해 <질투>에게 지속적으로 제기된 일본 드라마에 대한 표절 혐의 역시 재고의 여지를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 소설에서 텔레비전 드라마로 이행하고 있는 대중 서사의 위상을 드라마 창작 과정에 대한 자기반영적 서사로 제시하면서 <질투>는 이미 한국 텔레비전 드라마만의 특수성을 보여주고 있다고 하겠다.
