大學社會敎育의 意味 = Meaning of Social Education in University

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Main function of university are research, teaching, and social service. And a university would be developed only when all the three functions are organically interacted. In this view, Korean universities, in general, have relatively weak point in their social service function.
In consideration of the nature and functions of university, we should start to pay attention to the improvement of the university’s social education programs as a way of promoting its social service function. We can not avoid the criticism on our present social education programs in university that they are usually poor organized, money oriented, and routinized. Thus. university’s social education programs should expand their target groups toward working youth, women. and aged people. However, this expansion should be carried out in regard to role clarifications between other social education institutions and university. Also university’s social education programs should search both for their quality and popularity.
In order to improve the university’s social education programs, university should provide and develop various programs to meet the community’s educational demands positively and should, in the long run, open its facilities to the community to become a center of lifelong education.
