General digital filter include PCM(Pulse Code Modulation) for analog-to-digital(A/D) conversion of input signal and requires multiplication and summation operation to perform discrete convolution. Recently, it has been shown that using a delta modulation(EM) scheme for A/D conversion an FIR(Finite Impulse Response) filter (DMDF; Delta Modulation Digital Filter) can be realized without performing multiplication operations with the assumption that the DM does not introduce coding errors.
More recently, to improve the performance of the DMDF, optimum system idtenification technique to design to relevent DMDF coefficients has been presented. This approach required priori knowledge of the signal and matrix operations to find the optimum weights.
In this paper, it is suggested to use the LMS (Least Mean Square) algorithm to design the DMDF coefficients in a recursive way. Such a method can find unbiased estimates of the optimum weights and the estimation error can be reduced by using small convergence parameters and by averaging independent estimates.
Also, computer simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
