해외문학파와 근대성, 그 몇 가지 문제 : 이헌구의「해외문학과 조선에 있어서의 해외문학파의 임무와 장래」를 중심으로 on the [duty and future of the school of foreign literature in the foreign literature and Chosun]by Lee Heon-gu = The School of Foreign Literature and Modernity,and Its Several Problems

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As to the character of the school of foreign literature which did vigorous activities in the circle of criticism in the 1930s, I have examined a review 「foreign literature and duty and future of the school of foreign literature in Chosun period」by Lee Heon-gu. In this review he surveyed the aspects of foreign literature which had been accepted from the beginning of modern literature and revealed the purpose and meaning why the school of foreign literature was organized. He also clearly discussed identity of the school of foreign literature related to its duty and future through a content of explanatory character about criticism of Kaff. His review aims to introduce a climate of foreign literature accepted disorderly by examining systematically. Needless to say he, as a foreign literary writer, has a will of enlightenment intent on dedication to a progress of korean literature by correcting foreign literature which had been wrongly acknowledged until the appearance of the school of foreign literature. As I raised a problem, the self-introspection and self-awareness of the school of foreign literature which is the subject of enlightenment should keep pace in order to have genuineness of a will of enlightenment. It means not only the character of foreign literature which was learned and achieved under a suzerain state of colony, but also the clear self-awareness as an intelligent who spent his adolescence in the intelligent society of colony. However he did not discuss deeply about these aspects. In fact a question raised by me is the same with that of Kaff about the school of foreign literature. Lee Heon-gu just mentioned this at the level of professing outwardly. It resulted in not understanding the essence of power and ideology with literary magazine and newspaper as a modern literary system. The school of foreign literature had created and circulated its symbolic capital through literary magazine such as 『Poetry Literature』 and 『Monthly Literature』 and newspaper such as 『DongaIlbo』, 『ChosunIlbo』 and 『JengangIlbo』.
「The school of foreign literature」 of Lee Heon-gu revealed a problem which did not easily overlook as Kaff criticized along with important things about organization and activity of the school of foreign literature. In the aspect of a derivative problem while discussing seriously correlation with korean literature and foreign literature, his review is regarded as an important criticism in the circle of criticism of Korea.
