감수성이론에서의 도덕적 진리 = Moral Truth in the Sensibility Theory

국문 초록 (Abstract)

데이비드 위긴스와 존 맥도월이 제시한 감수성이론의 두드러진 특징은 도덕적 진리의 인식이 〈속성, 반응〉의 결함에서 온다는 주장이다. 이것을 무선후이론(no-priority view)이론이라고 하는데, 속성과 반응이 동시에 인식된다는 것이다. 이 무선후이론의 중요한 조건은 분석불가능성인데, 상기한 결합이 분석되지 못함을 규정함으로써 무선후이론이 지탱되는 것이다. 이 현상학적 진리가치론은 많은 예외적 상황에 부딪치게 되고, 감수성이론가들은 수렴이라든가(위긴스) 이성의(맥도웰) 개념들을 끌어들여 도덕적 진리를 설명하려고 한다. 이 논문에서 필자가 주장하는 바는 수렴이나 이성의 개념으로 도덕적 진리를 설명하려는 시도는 무선후이론에서 말하는 분석불가능성과 서로 충돌하게 된다는 것이다. 이렇게 주요 부분들이 서로 충돌하게 되면, 감수성이론이 갖는 이론적 독특성과 그 이론이 제시한 인지론이 모두 그 정당성을 잃게 된다고 필자는 또한 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A unique feature of the sensibility theory proposed by David Wiggins and John McDowell is their claim that moral truth is ascertained in the combination of 〈property, response〉. This is called the no-priority view which means that moral property of external objects and response in sensibility come simultaneously. One of the key conditions for the combination is unanalyzability, without which the no-priority view cannot be sustained. This phenomenological view of moral truth encounters many exceptions, so that the sensibility theorists try to defend their view by incorporating additional theoretical tools like convergence (Wiggins) or practical reason (McDowell) into their theory. The author argues that these additional tools come to collide with the notion of unanalyzability. The author further argues that the sensibility theory's uniqueness and cognitivism would lose its ground, due to the collision.
