As the trend of well-being in the two thousand years receives spotlight as a dominant value for our society, greater attention is paid to green amenity containing therapeutic elements in interior design. That is, the attempts to actively use the green amenity space which expresses green design on everybody’s lips in these days in the amenity space to be as natural as possible are widely made.
This study aims to examine the green amenity elements in the stream of times focusing on its applicability to church worship hall and to suggest that they can be the alternatives to the modernized changes of church worship hall and spatial comfortableness in the twenty first century.
This study conducted preference questionnaire survey on church worship hall with full-time pastors and field study visiting eight small and medium sized churches with fifty to nine hundred attendants in Dongjak-Gu, Seoul to analyze the design of each church. The results showed that there is lack of awareness on church worship hall for green amenity design and absence of green amenity elements. In addition, there is a need for alternatives appropriate for the change into modern worship hall in the twenty first century under the situation where the pastors are not satisfied with the current worship hall. Among the alternatives, the worship hall for green amenity will be the new alternative to the modern worship hall in the twenty first century by providing functional effects such as space partition of green amenity space by plants in the space, sound-blocking and inducement of traffic lines as well as therapeutic effects such as green comfortableness, air-cleaning, temperature and humidity control, space recreation, tension relief and meditation.
