Abstract
In this paper, we have examined the relationship between human communication and
human relations. It has been observed that its relationship is complementary.
Effective interpersonal communication depends upon the following communicators characte-
ristics ;
1. Recognition of the transactional nature of communication.
2. Adaptation to the complexity and uniqueness of others by remembering their cognitive
structures, their interpersonal perceptions, their orientations towards others.
3. Meaning-centeredness.
4. Sensitivity to the demands of the situation.
These characteristics are examined carefully by examining Ahn's interpersonal communication
model.
It has also been observed that credibility, attraction, homophily, and power perceived
by communicators while they are engaged in communicative situation are the key factors
that enforce successful interpersonal communication and relations,
