가스통 바슐라르의 ‘물질적 상상력’ 개념과 입체 조형에서 자연 재료와 표현기법이 갖는 가치에 대한 연구 = A study on the Concept of ʻMaterial Imaginationʼ by Gaston Bachelard and the Value of Natural Materials and Techniques in Three-Dimensional Art

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 가스통 바슐라르(Gaston Bachelard)의 '물질적 상상력' 개념과 이미지의 현상학을 토대로 입체 조형의 창작에 있어서 물질에 대한 예술가의 주체적 참여와 상호작용에 대하여 고찰하였다. 영, 육, 혼을 가진 존재인 인간이 자연재료를다루는 창작 행위는 '창조적 투쟁'이라 일컬을만하다. 이때 물, 불, 공기, 흙 같은 근원적 물질들이 일으키는 물질적 상상력은 원형적 이미지들과 조우하도록 이끌고, 예술가와 작품을 동시에 고양시켜줄 수 있다. 연구자는 예술가가 인공 재료가 아닌자연 재료를 선택하고, 물질의 변증법적 상상력과 연금술적 몽상이 불러일으키는 시적 이미지들을 활용한다면, 보다 심원한예술세계를 펼쳐나갈 수 있게 되리라 제안하고 있다. 그 실제적인 사례를 제시하고자, 물, 불, 공기, 흙이 모두 참여하는 연금술적 몽상이 일어난다는 점에서 테라코타 표현기법에 주목하고 이를 자세히 분석하였다. 또한 '예술가의 손' 이라는 부제 아래작업 과정 중 일어나는 물질과의 상호작용에 대해 고찰하면서 수작업의 가치를 강조하고, 바슐라르가 제시한 물질의 내밀성에 대한 네 가지 관조들을 '예술가의 눈'이라는 부제 아래 해설하였다. 또한 물질에 대한 참여의 세 단계로서 찬탄, 투사, 표현을입체 조형의 창작과정에 적용시키고, 그에 대한 사례연구로서 권진규의 테라코타 작품 [손]의 창작과정을 조명하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study researched the interaction between the artist and the material in the creation of three-dimensional art based on Gaston Bachelard's 'material imagination' and the phenomenology of images. The creative act of humans with spirit, body, and soul dealing with natural materials deserves to be called a 'creative struggle'. The material imagination evoked by water, fire, air, and earth can allow artists to encounter archetypal images, and enhance the artist and their artworks. The researcher suggests that a more profound world of art can be unfolded if the artist selects natural materials and utilizes poetic images evoked by the materials' dialectical imagination and alchemical reveries. To present practical case for this, the terracotta technique was analyzed focusing on the fact that alchemical reveries occurs with the participation of all basic materials in its process. And the value of handwork was emphasized, and the four perspectives suggested by Bachelard to contemplate material's values was interpreted, and the three stages of participation were applied to the creative process of art, and Kwon Jin-gyu's terracotta work Hand was evaluated as a case study.
