소아 성형안과 환자 보호자의 인식 변화: 2007년과 2017년의 비교 분석 = Guardians’ Perceptions of Pediatric Oculoplasty: Comparative Analysis in 2007 and 2017

Purpose: With regard to the process by which the guardians of pediatric oculoplastic patients choose medical care, this study assessed whether their perceptions changed after the department name was changed to oculoplasty. The study involved a comparative analysis of changes in the perceptions between a 10-year period from 2007–2017, to assess whether the name change led to better medical service.
Methods: Questionnaires, which were the same as those distributed in 2007, were distributed to the guardians of pediatric oculoplastic patients who were hospitalized for surgery for epiblepharon and ptosis. The results from 100 guardians who completed the survey were compared and analyzed with those collected in 2007.
Results: The average age of respondents was 38.1 years, and most respondents were mothers. Most had become aware of the primary symptoms after medical examinations of infants and school eyesight tests. The ophthalmologist had the most direct effect on the decision for oculoplastic surgery. With regard to economic status, most respondents were middle-class. Most had a college degree or higher, which was significantly increased when compared with the educational levels in 2007.
Conclusions: Overall, guardians’ perceptions had improved due to continuous education about oculoplasty, including notification of the name change to the Department of Oculoplasty, but it is necessary to continue efforts, such as providing professional information and medical consultations, to encourage patients to make the right decisions when selecting medical care.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적: 소아 성형안과 환자 보호자의 의료 선택 과정에 대한 10년 만의 인식 변화를 비교 분석함으로써 성형안과로의 명칭 변경 이후의 인식 개선 여부를 평가하고, 더 나은 의료서비스를 제공할 수 있는 방법을 모색해 보고자 한다.
대상과 방법: 덧눈꺼풀 및 눈꺼풀처짐 수술을 위해 입원한 소아 성형안과 환자 보호자에게 2007년 연구와 동일한 설문지를 배부하여, 완벽하게 설문조사를 시행한 100명을 대상으로 과거 연구 결과와 비교 분석하였다.
결과: 보호자의 평균연령은 38.1세였고 대부분은 어머니였다. 영유아 검진 및 학교 시력 검사를 통하여 주 증상이 처음 발견된 경우, 안과의사가 수술을 결정하는 데 직접적인 영향을 미쳤던 경우, 그리고 성형안과의 존재에 대하여 알고 있는 경우가 과거 연구와 비교하여 유의한 증가를 보였다. 경제적인 상태는 중, 최종 학력은 전문대졸 이상인 경우가 가장 많았으며, 2007년에 비해 유의하게 증가했다.
결론: 지난 10년 동안 안과의사를 비롯한 1차 의료진들을 대상으로 한 성형안과적 진단, 치료 및 수술에 대한 지속적인 교육과 안성형에서 성형안과로 개명하는 등 일반인을 대상으로 한 적극적인 홍보가 비교적 잘 이루어져 성형안과 분야에 대한 생소함을 해소하고 적절한 인식 개선이 있었던 것으로 평가된다.
