In this essay the writer pursued the life and ministry of the late Reverend Yung Wan Min(1918-2009), who dedicated his life to a small rural churches and church plantings in Seoul for 45 years. Reverend Min, born in San Chung, South Kyung Sang Province to a fabric merchant, converted to Christianity in 1935 through Mr. Soon Jong Jung, a deacon of the neighboring Presbyterian church, and decided to pursuit theological studies in Japan. In April 1938 he cross into Japan, and trained at Kansai Biblical Seminary in Kobe for three years. This Seminary, established by two American missionaries, Barclay F. Buxton, A. Paget Wilkes, was known for its emphasis on practical aspect of theology in prayer and evangelism rather than academic or intellectual knowledge of theology. Upon graduation, he returned to Korea and started a long journey of serving His churches in South Kyung Sang Province. He preferred to and confined himself to small rural churches rather than to minister in established, well organized big churches in the cities, and he volunteered as an evangelist in the cities. He always worked for the weak and the poor in need. He did not seek after wealth and success. He was not a successful pastor by worldly view, however, he was true shepherd who lived a life of sacrifice. He is an exemplary model for the modern day Korean church.
