      The 21st century is a period of new design to lead generally human-oriented and socio-cultural re-coordination that is specialized and classified in accordance with the open trend under the WTO system. In the meantime that each country in the world has been changing to the direction of pursuing its own practical benefits and the competitions among all countries are increasing as time goes by, design tends to be recognized as the most important factor raising the value-added of the product as a visible idea deciding the culture of each and the level of scientific technology rather than as a method of selling products. As globalization has been unified as a unified community in the technical level or function, it is a current tendency that general way of living or cultural differences has been gradually disappearing and the unique culture of one country and the other culture has been compounded by developing to the form of the coordination rather that directive movement. The compounded cultural aspects shall be more accelerated in the future in accordance with the development of communication method communication, transportation method, etc.. In the transaction among countries, the image of one country will be expressed through the products sold by its own country, and the culture of the other country will be met through the products already sold. It means that the moaning of design is more increasing in expressing the culture of its own country and also warrants that the culture-oriented design development is necessarily needed. In the end, the products developed based upon its native traditional culture only could be the method of competitive power to maximize the sales and profits of its own country in the international competitive society. Now. it is indispensably essential that a new design through a new value that was created by comparing various culture, technique, value conforming to the globalized era and properly selecting and harmonizing design should be made with the basis of the customs, national people, way of thinking, historical factors and cultural specialties of its own country. At first. stating from this necessity. I would like to find the possibility of reproduction as a modern design by finding an essential meaning of the tradition through the various and wide interpretation and research about native traditional culture rather than a preservation of traditional culture. Furthermore, I also would like to suggest the proposal of this study to make our Korean traditional culture a design by grasping Korean cultural identity with the basis of Korean traditional culture image to be preferentially preceded.
