Effects of water extract of Siegesbeckiae Herba on the pharmacokinetics of sulfobromo-phthalein (BSP) and patho-physiological aspects in the rat of hepatic failure induced by carbon tetrachloride were examined.
1. CCl4 -induced decrease of body weight and increase of liver weight, liver to body weight ratio, GOT and GPT There significantly inhibited by Siegesbeckiae Herba.
2. The spots of BSP excreted into bile that were identified on TLC were observed at the same Rf values (0.30, 0.44, 0.65, 0.76) in each group.
3. Siegesbeckiae Herba increased plasma disappearance rate, amount of biliary excretion and K(I) (fast rate constant) value of BSP.
4. Although the two transfer constants K12 and K21, showed no significant changes with respect to those of the CCl4 treated rats, the ratio of K12 /K21 which was defined as the 'affinity' of BSP for liver showed a significant increase in CCl4 & Siegesbeckiae Herbs treated rats.
5. The transfer constants, K23 and K34 were also increased in Siegesbeckiae Herba treated rats. However, the K12 V1 and bile flow rate were not significantly changed by Siegesbeckiae Herba.
