Kinetic studies on the reaction of para-substituted-1-phenyl ethyl benzene sulfonates with substituted anilines in methanol-acetonitrile mixtures have been carried out in order to elucidate the reaction mechanism. Hammett ρ_(Χ), ρ_(Y) values, Brønsted β_(Χ) values have been determined in order to clarify the transition state variation caused by substituent changes in nucleophiles and substrates. Reactivity of substrates, substituent effects of nucleophile and solvent effects indicate that the studied reaction proceeds via intermolecular S_(Ni) mechanism.
