The crystal engineering of networked coordination polymer is of great current interest due to their potential properties for ion exchange, gas storage, molecular sensing, and catalysis.
Many efforts have been devoted to the investigating of new synthetic strategies using novel rigid or flexible spacer ligands.
In a previous attempt to investigate the design and control of the self-assembly of coordination polymers with rigid bridging ligands, we synthesized different dimensional structures from different metal salts with the rigid ligand.
Metal ions, especially Zn(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ), are incorporated into many enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphate ester bonds. In order to mimic the hydrolytic reaction of their enzymes, many Zn(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) complexes have been synthesized and shown catalytic activities for the cleavage of RNA and RNA model compounds. While there has been significant progress in this area, the mechanism for the cooperative interaction of metal ions in stabilizing the transition state for phosphodiester cleavage is not well understood.
