『孟子』의 浩然之氣 연구 = A Study on the Theory of Self-cultivation and Spirit of Mencius

국문 초록 (Abstract)

맹자는 浩然之氣論을 통해 他者 指向的 共同體를 지향하였다. 그의 사상에서 타자 지향성을 읽을 수 있는 부분은 不忍人之心으로 마음(心)의 內在性을 설명하는 가운데 드러나지만, 이것은 천인관계와 인성론에 국한할 경우, 인간의 성선설을 논증하는데 머문다. 그의 人性論과 氣論을 유기적으로 연계시킴으로써 指向性을 읽을 수 있다. 그의 호연지기론은 근본적으로 타자 지향적 마음을 준비하고 강화하는 것이다. 다시 말해 孟子의 修養論은 기본적으로 他者와 對面하여 원활히 소통하기 위한 일종의 自己準備의 과정으로 이해된다. 따라서 수양을 통해 도덕적 주체성·자율성을 회복한 本來的 自己가 언제든지 他者를 환영할 자세를 확립하려 하였다.
四端의 마음은 스스로의 성찰을 통하여 실현되는 것이다. 성찰된 바가 바르고 그것을 일마다 실천하는 것이 義를 모으는 일이다. 義가 모아지면 道德的 生命力인 浩然之氣가 스스로 생겨나고, 이 호연지기는 자연스레 온 天下에 두루 미친다. 이는 우리가 함께 살아가는 생명과 존엄성의 원칙으로 더불어 살 수 있는 사회를 만들 수 있는 공존의 길이다. 그의 호연지기론은 이러한 과정으로 이해할 수 있다.

If the righteousness is gathered, the vast-flowing spirit, which is the moral vitality, generates by itself, and it reaches all over the whole world. It is a way to coexist which enables us to make the society to live together with the principle of life and dignity to do so. His theory of the vast-flowing spirit can be understood as such a process.
