유치원에서 발생하는 유아안전사고에 대한 교사의 인식 및 요구 탐색 = Early Childhood Teachers’ Perceptions and Needs for Child Safety and Prevention of Accidents in Kindergarten : A Phenomenological Inquiry Exploring Social & Psychological Aspects

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 유치원에서 발생하는 유아안전사고에 대한 교사의 인식 및 그 기저에 내포된 사회심리학적 함의와 관련 요구들을 현상학적으로 탐색함으로써, 그들을 지원하기 위한 기초자료를 구축하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 사립 A유치원의 현·퇴직교사 5인을 대상으로 개별 심층면담과 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 이에 대한 구체적인 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 교사들은 유아안전사고를 완벽한 통제가 불가능하여 지속적으로 발생하는 일상의 사건이자 그들의 부정적인 정서를 자극하고, 유아의 균형적인 발달을 저해하는 위험요인으로 인식하고 있었다. 그러나 한편으로는 교사 역량의 엄격한 평가 잣대가 되어 그들을 성장시키는 동력으로 작용함을 보고하였다. 둘째, 이러한 교사의 인식은 복합적인 사회·심리적 요인에 의해 형성되는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 교사들은 유아안전사고와 관련하여 물리·환경적, 인적, 교육적, 사회적 측면의 다채로운 요구들을 표명하였다. 본 연구는 이상의 결과를 토대로 유아안전사고에 대한 교사의 인식 구조를 도출하고, 향후 우리 사회가 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 제언하였다. 본 연구가 매일의 삶 속에서 유아의 안전을 위해 고군분투하는 교사들에 대한 이해를 증진시키고, 더 나아가 그들을 위한 지원 체계 마련에 작은 시발점이 되길 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was designed to explore child safety and the prevention of accidents in kindergarten through the eyes of early childhood teachers with analysis of social and psychological aspects. The five teachers, who have been working or retired at/from the private kindergarten located in, an upper class-income area of Seoul, were individually interviewed with in-depth questions, and observed in natural class settings. Major themes emerged from the analysis of the observations and the individual interviews. First, teachers recognized that accidents were inevitable due to the nature of young children’s development such as exploring new things or immaturity in physical balancing and cognition, and occurs in all aspects of daily routines. Teachers applied strict assessment criteria regarding the accidents on themselves; meanwhile the criteria were functioning as driving forces to grow their professionality. Second, these teachers’ perceptions on the accidents were formed complexly by both social and/or psychological factors. Third, teachers expressed their needs in physical, environmental, human, educational, and social aspects related to child safety and the prevention of accidents. Based on the above results, the authors of this study produced the structure of teachers’ perceptions about child safety and accidents and suggested some future directions for our society as well as in the professional field. We hope this study will improve the understanding about teachers struggling for the improvement of child safety in their daily lives, and also it will be a small stepping stone in establishing a support system for them.
