분석심리학과 문학치료: 상담적 개입의 치료 효과에 대한 논의를 중심으로 = A Comparison Between Analytic Psychology and Literary Therapeutics in Terms of their Therapeutic Effectiveness

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 분석심리학과 문학치료 이론을 비교하는 데 있다. 이 비교를 통해 본 연구는 상담적 개입의 치료적 효과가 어디에서 기인하는가를 밝히고자 한다. 곧 분석심리학과 문학치료의 비교를 시도하는 본 연구는 상담적 개입의 치료적 효과에 대한 논의에 초점을 맞춰 이뤄진다. 분석심리학과 문학치료 이론 사이의 비교가 가능한 것은 이 두 이론이 모두 인류의 역사를 통해 남겨진 고전과, 신화, 민담과 설화와 같은 문학작품을 치료적 자원으로 사용하고 있다는 데 있다. 많은 세대에 걸쳐 읽혀진 고전과 같은 문학작품은 인간 삶에 대한 지혜와 통찰을 담고 있기에 인간 마음에 치료적인 기능을 하리라고 예상할 수 있다. 그렇다면, 구체적으로 그것이 어떤 방식에 의해 그런 치료적 기능으로 작동될 수 있는가? 문학작품의 치료적 효과에 대해 분석심리학과 문학치료는 비교적 상세하고 설명하고 있는데, 이것은 상담적 개입이 갖는 치료적 효과와 연결지어 설명할 수 있다. 이런 비교작업을 통해, 본 연구는 상담적 개입이 마음의 문제에 치료와 회복을 가져올 수 있는 이유가 내적 경험 세계의 반영과 상담에서의 새로운 요소의 도입에 의한 그것의 변화와 창조에 의한 것임을 보여준다.
먼저, 본 연구는 분석심리학과 문학치료 이론이 가정하는 인간 내적인 심층세계에 대한 논의에서 시작한다. 이 두 이론은 인간의 정신병리와 심리문제의 기저에 인간의 행동과 사고, 느낌과 감정에 강력하게 영향끼치는 심층세계의 문제가 존재하며, 그것을 다룰 수 있어야 보다 근본적인 치료적 성과를 달성할 수 있는 것으로 본다. 분석심리학과 문학치료는 각각 그 심층세계를 집단무의식과 서사라는 개념으로 묘사한다. 분석심리학에서 집단무의식은 인류의 태생적이고 유전적인 인류 보편적 원형으로 이뤄져 있다고 보는 반면, 문학치료는 그 심층세계가 다양한 인간관계의 양식으로 분류될 수 있는 서사로 구조화되어 있다고 보고 있다. 분석심리학과 문학치료 이론은 문학작품이 바로 이런 인간 내적 세계에 자리잡고 있는 심층세계의 단면들을 보여주고 드러낸다. 분석심리학에 따르면, 집단무의식의 원형은 개인내적경험과 직접적인 관련성이 없으며 오히려 인류 고전과 같은 문학작품을 통해 간접적으로 경험될 수 있다. 문학작품 속 이야기를 통해 사람은 자신의 내적 세계에서 소외되었던 마음의 영역을 통합시킬 수 있다. 문학치료는 문학작품 속 작품서사는 읽는 독자의 자기서사에 강한 영향력을 끼치고 변화와 성숙을 유도할 수 있다. 이런 현상을 문학치료는 공명이란 개념으로 체계화시켰다.
이 두 이론의 비교를 통해, 문학작품이 읽는 독자의 내적 세계를 반영하는 것으로 기능할 뿐만 아니라, 새로운 삶의 지침과 방향을 제시하는 역할을 한다는 것이 드러나게 된다. 문학작품의 이야기는 독자들의 삶을 공감하고 반영하여 카타르시스를 경험하게 한다. 하지만, 이에게 한걸음 더 나아가 문학작품은 읽는 독자들이 미처 파악하지 못한 삶과 인간관계의 개선을 위한 지혜와 통찰을 담고 있다. 곧, 비교심리학과 문학치료는 문학작품과 인간의 내적 세계의 이야기 사이의 유사성을 통한 반영의 경험, 그리고 문학작품의 새로운 요소에 의한 심층세계의 새로운 창조와 변화의 경험이 치료적 효과를 설명한 두 차원임을 보여준다. 상담의 치료적 성격 또한 이런 공감과 모델링에 의한 것임을 본 연구는 주장하며, 이를 자기심리학에서는 거울, 쌍둥이, 그리고 이상화 자기대상 개념을 사용하여 구체적으로 묘사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the therapeutic effectiveness of the process of psychotherapy by comparing analytic psychology and literary therapeutics. This comparison is possible is because analytic psychology and literary therapeutics both make frequent use of classic works of literature, myth, and folktale as therapeutic resources. One can easily surmise that those stories play a therapeutic role because they contain wisdom and insight into human lives. Then, how can the stories work as therapeutic materials? Analytic psychology and literary therapeutics concretely explain the therapeutic effects of those works of literature whose discussion helps to unravel clues on how the therapy cures psychological problems.
This study shows that the therapeutic effectiveness comes from mirroring the world of inner experiences and introducing a new dimension into the counseling relationship. This study makes assumptions about analytic psychology and literary therapeutics regarding the in-depth human inner world. Both see the in-depth inner world as a place that not only powerfully influences pathological behaviors, thoughts, and emotions but should also be dealt with in therapeutic settings to reach the fundamental cure. Both conceptualize the inner world as collective unconscious and epic. Analytic psychology understands the collective unconscious as an intrapsychic realm composed of hereditary, genetic, and universal archetypes. Literary therapeutics asserts that the inner world is made up of epics representing various human relationships. Both similarly understand that works of literature contain the hidden and unknown aspects of the human mind, and that is why they induce growth and maturation of human minds.
Therefore, works of literature not only reflect the inner worlds of readers but also provide a better way of life. They make it possible for readers to experience catharsis by echoing the readers internal dimensions. However, they contain wisdom and insight used for improving human relationships. The stories contained within the literature create an in-depth human inner world as well as mirror the readers’ daily lives, which are closely associated with the therapeutic effectiveness of psychotherapy. This article explains the therapeutic characteristics of therapy by introducing concepts of self psychology; in other words, mirroring, idealizing, and the twinship selfobjects.
