초현실주의 회화에 나타난 새(鳥) 이미지 연구 : 본인의 작품을 중심으로 = Study on the imagery of bird related in surrealism : Regarding my own works

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대의 회화에는 예술가의 주관에 따른 조형적인 상징과 함께 인간의 내적인 정신 세계를 표현하고자 하는 노력이 내포되어 있다.
이러한 내적인 상징성을 추구하는 가운데, 물질문명에 의해 인간이 소외되는 복잡한 현대 사회에서 벗어나고자 하는 인간은 현실을 초월하듯 자유롭게 날 수 있는 새에 인간을 비교하여 보게 된다. 새는 초월을 나타내는 대표적인 소재로써 문학과 예술에서 이미 자유와 理想의 상징으로 자주 등장하였다.
인간 정신의 해방을 위하여 무의식의 세계에 관심을 기울이고 대상의 내적 세계를 표현하기 위해 상상력을 발휘하였던 초현실주의자들에게도 새는 매력 있는 상징물이었다. 초현실주의자들은 비실제적인 세계를 可視的으로 보여 주기 위하여 자유롭고 환상적인 방법들을 만들어 냈는데, 모순되는 요소들을 결합시키거나 대상물을 엉뚱한 환경에 換置시켜서 시각적 충격을 주는 데페이즈망(Depaysemant) 기법은 일반적인 경험의 이미지를 뒤엎고 신비감을 준다.
본 논문에서는 새나 새의 날개를 작품의 소재로 자주 등장시키면서 그것을 데페이즈망의 원리로 처리한 초현실주의적 경향의 작가들인 샤갈(Marc Chagall), 에른스트(Max Ernst), 마그리뜨(Rene Magritte)등을 연구 대상으로 하였다.
초현실주의의 선구자 격인 샤갈의 작품에는 동물과 인간의 온화한 조화와 함께, 특히 새와 인간 또는 새와 동물이 결합된 형상이 자주 등장한다. 새에 대한 강박 관념을 가지고 있었던 에른스트는 꼴라쥬(Collage)나 프로타쥬(Frottage) 등의 기법을 써서 새의 환각적인 이미지와 수수께끼 같은 환상을 만들어 냈다. 데페이즈망 기법의 대표적 작가라고 할 수 있는 마그리뜨 또한 그가 추구하는 자유로운 정신의 세계를 표현하는 데에 있어 새를 주요 소재로 등장시켰다.
이들의 작품을 본인의 작품과 비교 연구한 이유는 새를 통해 자신의 심상을 표출하고 현실을 상상력에 의해 재창조하여 눈에 보이지 않는 세계까지도 인식하려는 노력을 했다는 점에서 본인과의 공통점을 느꼈기 때문이다.
본인의 작품에서는 자아의 내적 갈등과 자연과의 交感의 표현으로 새와 인간과 자연의 단순화된 형상을 접목시키고 있고, 이러한 소재들의 이미지를 잘 조화시켜서 초현실적인 詩的 분위기를 만들고자 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The history of modern painting has been pursued to express the human spirituality, with the tendency of formalistic simbolization depending on each artist's ideal.
Men have become more isolated by the rapidly growing materialization, naturally they turned to depicting the imagery of bird since it offers a bitter comparison to human being who can not fly as freely as bird. In literature and most genres of fine art, the imagery of bird is the most commonly adapted subject which easily implies transcendency, representing freedom of all.
The image of bird was also a very attractive subject to surrealists, whose main interest was concentrated on the salvation of human spirituality with an application of thr Freudian unconsciousness. Surrealists searched for imagenative, illusionistic methods to create surrealistic picture. They often applied depaysment methods which characterise a juxtaposition of irrelevent objects, it doubled and mystified the impact provided to viewers.
In this essay, I studied about certain suurealists who have dealt with this depaysment method to depict the imagery of bird or its wings.
Marc Chagall is often described as a pioneer of surrealist painting, he painted of a harmony between human and animal, such as birds with men or even a srrange creature of a man shaped as bird. Max Ernst supposedly had a persecution complex of bird which in return resulted in a creation of enigmatic illusion of bird. Rene Magritte also used an image of bird to inscribe the free mind of human with an adaptation of depaysment method.
The reason why I daringly applied a comparison of my works to these painters lies in the realization that I believe my works are based on a similar depiction of birds to recreate a reality by using an imagination, therefore I was able to link my works to those surrealist painters.
I also juxtapose the imagery of bird in the anatomy of human body to express my inner conflict which I seek a solution from a communication with the nature. This images are well harmonized in rather a poetic atmosphere of surrealism.
