This experiment was conducted to improve the quality of artificial diet for the silkworm., Bombyx mori.
1. All of the Corn, Barley, Rice were good for response, Corn was most recommendable starch source for artificial diet.
2. The precentage of under grown larvae could be reduced by the treatment of hexane when the soybean powder was used for starch source, which was especially effective on the diet for the 1st instar.
3. Feeding responses and growth at 4th instar larvae were varied by the individual moth, however the Japanese strains were superior to Chinese strains in general case.
4. All of the hybrid silkworm showed the better feeding response and growth than their original strains.
5. Both cocoon productivity and egg productivity of the original strains reared on the artificial diet were increased by the subsequent rearing through generation.
