레비나스의 타자철학을 통하여 본 사회적 건축에 관한 연구 -타자, 환대 개념을 중심으로- = A Study on Social Architecture Based on Levinas' Typing Philosophy -Focused on the concept of others and hospitality-

국문 초록 (Abstract)

(연구배경 및 목적) 최근, 현대사회 속에서 일어나는 다양한 사회적인 문제에 관심을 가진 건축가들의 활동이 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 이론자체의 체계와 사유중심적인 전체성도 인간폭력의 원인이 될 수 있으며, 윤리를 존재의 근본구조라고 설명하는 레비나스의 타자철학과 최근 이루어지고 있는 사회적인 건축 활동을 존재론적으로 연관 짓고, 사회적 건축의 방향성을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 연구를 시작하였다. (연구방법) 레비나스의 주요 저서인 전체성과 무한을 이론의 바탕으로 삼고, 존재에서부터 윤리적인 주체, 제3자까지 서술하면서 한 사람을 위한 주체에서 사회를 위한 주체로의 이행을 살펴보았으며, 타자를 향하는 주체의 환대 개념과 윤리적인 주체로서의 책임 개념을 이론의 기반으로 삼았다. 이론 중심적인 설계로 전체성을 띄는 무장애인증 건축물과 현대의 대표적인 사회적 건축가 알레한드로 아라베나, 이토 토요, 시게루 반의 건축사례, 자생적 도시재생 사례인 메데인, 파벨라의 상황을 함께 살펴보면서 사회적인 건축을 실현시키는 방식의 차이를 보여주고, 이용자들의 참여를 이끌어내는 참여 건축은 타자를 환대해야지만 자신의 에고이즘에서 벗어나 무한관념을 가질 수 있는 주체와 연관 되고, 사회 속에서 불평등한 삶을 사는 소수자들을 위한 건축 활동은 타자를 향하고 있고, 향해야 하는 주체로서의 책임 개념과 연관됨을 볼 수 있었다. (결과) 더 많은 사람들과 자연을 수용할 수 있는 건축을 추구한 세 건축가들의 활동은 타자를 향하고 있다. 이들은 자신의 사유를 넘어 다양하게 활용될 수 있는 무한한 공간을 위해 타인을 환대하며, 기본적인 생활에 어려움을 겪는 사람들이 안락한 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 건축가로서의 책임 있는 모습을 보인다. 주체의 사유로 환원되지 않는 타자를 위한 건축은 타인을 향해야 한다. 높음을 추구하는 존재로서 자신을 초월하는 무한 관념을 가지기 위해서는 타인으로부터 시작되는 대면의 대화가 이루어져야하고, 그렇기에 무한한 건축을 하기 위해서 건축가는 이용자들과 주민들의 소리를 듣는 것을 시작으로 설계를 구성해가야 한다. (결론) 세계 속에서 삶을 살아갈 수 있는 근본이 되는 건축을 주도하는 건축가에게는 사람들이 이용하는 건축물과 제대로 된 거주생활을 하지 못하는 사람들에 대한 책임이 있다. 더 많은 사람들이 자신의 삶을 향유할 수 있도록 하는 건축 활동이 사회적인 건축이라고 볼 수 있으며, 이를 실현시키기 위해서 건축가는 타자를 향하는 윤리적인 자세를 가져야 한다. 타인을 위한 건축이 타자를 위한 건축으로 나아갈 수 있고 합리적인 건축으로서 역량을 가지며, 타인을 향하고 환대하는 건축만이 사회적인 건축으로서 건축가의 역량을 넘을 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

(Background and Purpose) The activities of architects who pay attention to various social issues in modern society have recently been highlighted. Thus, Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy explains not only that the system of a theory itself and the thought-oriented totality that can also be a root cause of human violence, but also that ethics is the fundamental structure of existence. In this regard, this study began with the objectives of connecting the philosophy of the other by Levinas to the social architectural activities that have been recently entailed, suggesting further the direction of social architecture. (Method) This study explored the transition from existence to an ethical subject, that is, from the subject for one person to the subject for society, while describing even a third party, and applied the concept of hospitality of the subject toward the other and the concept of responsibility as the basis of the theory. We examined barrier-free certified buildings that show totality due to theory-oriented designs, and also investigated not only the cases of representative modern social architects, including Alejandro Aravena, Ito Toyo, and Shigeru Ban, but also the situations before and after self-sustaining urban regeneration activities in Medell’n and Favela. (Results) The activities of the three architects who pursued architecture, which can embrace nature and more people, were oriented toward the other. They show hospitality to others for an infinite space that can be utilized variously beyond their own thoughts and demonstrate responsible attitudes as an architect so that people who have difficulties in basic daily life can live a comfortable life. The architecture for the other, who was not returned because of the thought of the subject, should be oriented to the other. To have an infinite notion that transcends oneself as the existent who pursues the high, a face-to-face conversation, which begins with the other, should take place. Accordingly, an architect should implement the design, starting with listening to the sounds of users and residents to conduct an infinite architecture. (Conclusions) Architects who lead the architecture, a basis for living a life in the world, should be responsible for buildings used by people and people who do not properly manage their residential life. It is deemed that social architecture is an architectural activity that allows more people to enjoy their lives, and to implement this, architects must have an ethical attitude toward the other. Architecture for other people can move forward to the architecture for the other and have competence as a reasonable architecture; furthermore, only architecture that orients and shows hospitality to the other can surpass architectural competence as a social architecture.
