한국어 진행형표지 `-고 있다`와 어휘상과의 상호작용 연구 = A Study on the Interaction Between the Progressive Marker `-ko iss` in Korean and the Lexical Aspect

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the interaction between the progressive marker ‘-ko iss’ in Korean and the lexical aspect. This investigation stimulates a further discussion about the marker and other spectual markers’ meanings/functions. On the basis of an in-depth literature review in this field, this study made some claims about the topic as follows. First, it is probable that the Korean verbs such as ‘alta(know)’ and ‘saranghata(love)’ should be regarded as states, while they should be reclassified into achievements by the process of aspectual coercion proposed by De Swart(1998) when they combine with the progressive markers such as ‘-ko iss’. Second, the present progressive meanings in Korean are expressed by three different markers: simple tense marker, ‘-ko iss’ marker, and ‘-nun cwung’ marker. It is argued that the three different forms for the progressive meaning express the different scopes of focussing. The simple present tense marker represents the wide scope of focussing, while the ‘-ko iss’ marker the narrower scope of focussing. The ‘-nun cwung’ marker is argued to represent the narrowest scope of focussing.
