사교육 유형이 초등학생 학습기술에 미치는 영향 = The Effects of Private Education Types on Study Skills

Our education systems rely on private education more than necessary. Critical perspectives on the private education are dominant in the society but there is no systematic approach to reduce the private education. The most important reason why we rely on the private education is to enhance academic achievement. There can be many reasons for the private education to enhance academic achievement but study skill can be one of the reasons. The study tried to find useful information by examining the effects of private education types on the study skills. The study randomly selected 316 elementary school students and diagnosed their study skills according to the types of private education. The results of this study indicate that private education affects on the study skills. The students who took the private education showed statistically significant high scores in every five sub-categories of the study skills: self-managing, instruction participating, task solving, test-taking, and information processing. Second, the types of private education affect on the study skills. The most affecting type of private education was paper-based self studying and then cyber learning, private tutoring, and private institution are the next order of influence. The effects of private education were also different according to the sub-categories of study skills. The study comes to the conclusion that the private education provide students with the opportunity to redesign learning contents by themselves and do self-regulated learning therefore enhance study skills. Therefore we need to provide students with the same opportunity systematically in public education system so that they can enhance their academic achievement without the assistance of private education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라는 사교육에 필요 이상으로 의존하고 있으며 이를 극복하기 위한 체계적인 연구보다는 비판적인 시각만이 팽배해 있는 실정이다. 사교육에 의존하는 가장 큰 이유는 학업성취도의 향상일 것이다. 사교육이 학업성취도를 높이는 이유는 다양할 수 있으나, 그 중 하나로 학습기술을 들 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사교육 여부에 따라 학습기술에 차이가 있는지, 차이가 있다면 학습기술에 영향을 미치는 사교육 유형이 무엇인지를 밝힘으로써 공교육을 위한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다. 본 연구는 부산 시내 소재의 초등학교 5개교 5, 6학년 316명을 학교 급지에 따라 무작위로 선정하여 사교육 수강 여부, 수강하는 사교육 유형, 그리고 학습기술 검사를 실시하였다. 분석 결과를 살펴보면, 첫째, 사교육이 학습기술 향상에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학습기술의 하위요소인 자기관리, 수업참여, 과제해결, 시험 치기 그리고 정보처리 5개 영역 전부에서 사교육을 받은 학생들이 받지 않은 학생들보다 통계적으로 유의미하게 높은 점수를 보여 사교육이 모든 학습기술 하위요소에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사교육 유형인 사이버학습, 학습지, 개인과외, 학원 모두 학습기술에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 학습기술에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 사교육 유형은 학습지였으며 그 다음으로는 사이버학습, 개인과외, 학원 순으로 나타났으며, 학습기술을 구성하는 하위요소에 따라 사교육 유형의 영향도 조금씩 다른 결과를 보여주었다. 본 연구의 결과에 따르면 사교육이 상대적으로 강의내용을 전달하는 공교육 형태와는 달리 스스로 학습내용을 재구조화하고 자기조절적인 학습을 할 수 있는 기회를 제공함으로써 학습기술의 발달을 유도하고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. 따라서 공교육에서도 수업과정에서 각 과목마다 수업내용과 통합하여 다양한 수업기술을 연마할 수 있는 자기조절적인 학습기회를 제공하고 적절한 지도를 해 줄 수 있다면 사교육이 가진 학업성취도 향상 요인들을 공교육에서 보충해 줌으로써 학업성취도 개선에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
