The strategic problem of the contemporary mission is the Church which possesses the name Jesus, preaches the name of Jesus and works as He wills. The saints of the Early church who received the promised Holy Spirit preached the name Jesus to the world. The Church started in Jerusalem and continued in Antioch. And the Gospel was spread through the expansion of the Roman Empire. It was after severe periods of persecution, depression and hardship that faith could be transmitted till today. In this history of faith, a great multitude of saints did not surrender to their oppressive environment and succeeded in preserving the faith that overcomes the world.
The definition of the "The strategic problem of the contemporary mission" is not clearly established yet. In some respect, the concept as the opposite of the Old Testament Church, might be said to have started with the works of Jesus, but in another respect it started with Peter who obeyed the commandment of Jesus namely, "And on this rock you will build my church” and preached the Kingdom of God. In still another respect, the “The strategic problem of the contemporary mission” began at the Pentecost with the coming of the Spirit on the Spirit on the apostle and their empowerment for the ministry of the Gospel. The most important issue for us, however is the spirit of the The strategic problem of the contemporary mission which consists in keeping pure faith through the help and work of the Holy Spirit on the basis of the Word of Jesus, and in spreading the Gospel.
The spirit of the The strategic problem of the contemporary mission is well shown in the The strategic problem of the contemporary mission, especially, the faith of the Early Church’s saints in the four Gospels and Acts. The common opinion among Christians is that faith started from the Early Church in purity, was damaged seriously in the Medieval age by Roman Catholics, strived to get back to get back to the right track in the Reformation and arrived to the present state. All along these times, there might have been, however saints who had pure faith and the spirit of the The strategic problem of the contemporary mission, and thus, went through many hardship in trying to preserve themselves from spiritual corruption and not deviate from the original path.
The Celtic Church, represented by Columba, was one of the community with pure faith in Britain which includes England, Scotland and Ireland. They endeavored their best to keep the virginity of faith based on the Bible only by the denial of papal sovereignty and ecclesiastical authority. In the evangelization of England, they eventually came into conflict with the Roman Catholics whose goal was political glory and spiritual domination, but could not win victory over them. But the faith of Celtic Church is as much significant as one deems it necessary to re-examine in connection to the strategic problem of the contemporary mission.
Attention should be given also to a group called Waldeneses or Waldensians, in the middle of the Medieval age. In addition to their efforts to preserve the Early church faith, they led acommunity life that reminds of the Early Church. Waldensians were also martyred thoroughly by the Roman Catholics. In some respect, their faith laid the groundwork for the Reformation in the near future.
The Anabaptists is one of the mostly misunderstood groups in the world. As they realized that the Reformation triggered by Martin Luther, had lost its way to the earthly united religion, they tried to return to pure faith in a movement that was persecuted by the so-called reformed churches. Their view of the Church wascloser to the spirit of the strategic problem of the contemporary mission than the Protestant Church. Numerous Anabaptists were martyred because they advocated baptism by immersion, and not by aspersion or sprinkling, and rejected infant baptism.
In the 21st century, there is a theocentric theology, a faith movement which casts off any anthropocentric theologies and aims at returning to the Bible by shedding light on the Picture if God’s Will. It is the “Berea Movement” form Seoul Sungrak Church in Seoul, Korea. The Berea Movement is Bible-centered and advocates to follow the faith attitude of the Bereans as described in Acts 17:11; these were noble and received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, seeing whether those things were true. This movement is a strict back-to-the Bible movement and presents a milestone to the Modern Church in that it aims at breathing in the spirit of the strategic problem of the contemporary mission.
There could be some controversies as to how the strategic problem of the contemporary mission that Jesus Christ commanded to build on earth should look in the 21st century. Since the one who knows God the best is the Holy Spirit, it is a matter of fact that the Spirit only can indicate the reality of the desired contemporary mission, and lead towards it. Therefore, the movement of the contemporary mission is unthinkable without the Holy Spirit. The history of the Church is that of God working through humans because only the Holy Spirit can lead them into a movement which recovers pure faith, and make it come true.
