Almost all of domestic universities modern Chinese textbooks and Chinese textbooks for foreigner talking about the law of the Modifier-head Phrase believe that “DE” must be used when an verb-object phrase modifies nouns. But this view cannot be supported by the language facts, so it was widely questioned. This paper makes a detailed analyses of “VO+N”, the modifier-head phrase in which averb-object phrase modifies nouns directly. We first introduces the different combinations of “VO+N”,and divided them into several categories according to the various semantic relations between “VO” and “N”.Secondly, we emphasize the peculiar expression role of “VO+N”, and explainwhy it can be widely used.Finally, we point out that its composition must meet certain conditions, and it is not as good as “VO+DE+N”in free combination.
