Max Blecher The Harlequin versus the Nothingness

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 한국의 학계를 비롯하여 대다수의 영어권 사람들에게는 거의 알려지지않은루마니아작가를한명소개하는데의의를두고있다. 본논문에서다루어진Max Blecher (막스블레케르) 라는루마니아작가는2001년도에루마니아의 지명도 높은 주간지 『Observatorul cultural(문화 관찰자)』에서 조사한 설문에서 가장 뛰어난 현대 소설가들 중의 5위를 차지하였다.
이 논문은 작가의 아주 특이했던 전기를 간단하게 소개하는 것으로 시작하였다. 그 뒤를 이어, 그의 작품을 유럽과 루마니아 소설의 경계 선상에 있는 고전적 작품들과 비교하면서 상관 가능성을 분석해 보았다. 또한 심리분석면에서 루마니아 소설이 가지고 있던 한계를 뛰어넘고자 했던 작가의 시도를 중점적으로 다루었다. 이를 위해, 그의 작품 Întâmplări în Irealitatea imediată 가장 근접한 비현실의 사건>을 장 폴 사르트르가 쓴 실존주의 소설의대작인<구토>와비교하였다. 다음단계로는, 할리퀸(Harlequin)을중심으로 하여, Max Blecher의 모방성과 보편적인 은유의 이미지를 밝혀내고
자 하였다. 결론에서 Hedayat의 소설 <눈 먼 부엉이>와 비교하였는데, 이 비교는 지금까지 루마니아나 다른 나라의 문학 비평가가 시도하지 않았던 작업이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

My paper is introducing for the first time to Koreans scholars and English speaking readers an almost unknown Romanian writer, who occupied in 2001 the fifth position in a recent poll of the best Romanian novelists ever, organized by the reputed Romanian weeklyThe Cultural Observer. This article starts with a brief presentation of his very special biography, and then analyses the possible affiliation of his novels with similar books on the broader territory of Romanian and European novel tradition. Then it focuses on the writer’s attempt to transcend the limitations of the psychological or analytical novel. Intamplari in irealitatea imediata (Some events in the Most Immediate Unreality) iscompared then withLa nausee (The Nausea), Jean Paul Sartre’s famous
Existentialist novel. The next step consists in identifying some images or metaphors that can be used to describe Max Blecher’s universe and mymesis method, the most significant one being the image of Harlequin.
Last but not least, I have compared for the first time Blecher’s novel to Hedayat’s novel The Blind Owl, a comparison that has not being used before by either a Romanian or a foreign literary critic.
