This study aimed to explore the mechanism of how parenting attitudes respecting children’s decision-making rights (PCDMR) influence children’s human rights awareness (CHRA), focusing on the mediating roles of experience of children’s rights being respected in home (ECRRH) and self-esteem. This study used 6,230 cases (middle and high school students) derived from Children's and Youth Rights Survey 2019. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling were conducted. The main findings are summarized as follows. First, the direct effect of PCDMR on CHRA was significant. Second, ECRRH and self-esteem respectively mediated the relationship between PCDMR and CHRA. Furthermore, the indirect effect of PCDMR on CHRA via the sequence of ECRRH and self-esteem was significant. Based on the findings, this study emphasized the importance of family-focused intervention strategies such as parenting education program to enhance CHRA. This study concluded with discussion, implications, limitations of the study and suggestions for future studies.
