There are many kinds of controller for unstable systems such as PID controller, H<SUB>∞</SUB>, μsynthesis, LQG and so on. One of them is notch filter which uses one or more pairs of complex conjugate poles and zeros. The notch filter is basically combination of low-pass filter and high-pass filter so that notches can filter out a specific frequency or frequency band. Typically, the notches are implemented in the control system to reduce the effect of the mechanical resonances of the plant at certain frequency. This paper describes a design process of the notch filter to make unstable system using information of poles and zeros of the system.
