Solid dispersion is usually used to improve the solubility of water insoluble drug. However in this study solid dispersion used to prevent initial burst of rosiglitazone maleate. We used celluloses acetate as a waterproof coat to control the release of the drug. The solid dispersion of the two components (rosiglitazone maleate and cellulose acetate) were prepared by spray drying. The surface of solid dispersed samples was analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) was used to analyze the crystallinity of the drug. Also the structural characteristics of solid dispersion were analyzed by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). FT-IR, DSC and XRD results demonstrated that the physicochemical properties of the drug were changed by solid dispersion. Release profile showed that release rate of drug decreased, as polymer content rate increased and release rate of drug decreased, low concentration of the two components(rosiglitazone maleate and cellulose acetate) in gastric juice(pH 1.2).
