The present paper articulates a history of Korean medical mission, missiological and theological implications of medical mission and its necessity as a method of professional mission, and finally 10 advices that medical mission practitioners must keep in his/her ministries. Most of all, the author claims that all medical missionaries should begin his/her ministry based on the theology of pain, the ultimate pain that Jesus Christ, the Great Physician, suffered on the cross. When the medical missionaries realize the pain and sacrifice of the Great Physician, their mission and ministry would have some theological dimensions.
The author suggests 10 advices for Korean medical missionaries: (1) Short-term medical mission should focus on the support of long-term medical mission (2) Medical missionaries should first confirm their identity (doctor or missionary) (3) Medical mission should pay attention to global medical situation (4) Healing disease and abolishing sin are different job (5) Medical missionary should do research on native health and disease issues (6) The final institutional goal of medical mission is to nurturing native medical personnel with Christian faith (7) Consider the possibility and necessity of Community Health Evangelism (CHE) (8) Medical mission is for the love of humanity based on the theology of creation (9) Medical missionaries should update their medical knowledge (10) Medical missionaries should be aware of their own physical and spiritual well-being.
