노동신문 텍스트 분석을 통한 북한의 ‘중국특색사회주의’ 수용 태도 분석 = An Analysis of North Korea’s attitude of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics through automated text analysis over Rodong newspaper articles

This study investigates North Korea’s attitude of ‘Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’ through automated text analysis over Rodong newspaper articles. Main findings of the analysis by applying the main analysis technique of text mining are as follows. First, frequency analysis shows that words such as celebration of national events, emphasis on dictatorship, criticism of the United States, and evaluation of socialism with Chinese characteristics were searched with high frequency. Second, using LDA topic modeling, four topics were selected, including ‘policy performance’, ‘North Kore-China friendship’, ‘emphasis on ideology’, and ‘relationship with the U.S.’ Looking at the topic trend, ‘policy performance’ has appeared frequently since 2019, and recently, content related to bridging the gap between urban and rural areas has been emphasized. It was found that “North Korea-China Friendship” accounted for a large portion before and after national events such as the North Korea-China summit and the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The “Emphasis on ideology” has been reported very often over the entire period, which can be interpreted as a closer ideological commonality between two countries. Finally, “U.S. relations” usually appear after the failure of the North Korea-U.S. submit in Hanoi, showing disappointment with the U.S. and close ties with China. In sum, North Korea seems to highly evaluate the achievements of the Xi Jinping’s “Chinese socialism with characteristic for a New Era” and to regard it as homogeneous in terms of ideology.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 노동신문 기사의 텍스트 분석을 통하여 최근 북한의 ‘중국특색사회주의’의 수용 태도를 분석하였다. 2017년 10월∼2021년 12월까지 노동신문 기사 중에서 ‘중국특색사회주의’와 ‘공동부유’ 키워드가 본문 또는 제목에 포함된 81건의 기사를 텍스트 마이닝의 분석기법을 적용하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 빈도분석 결과 국가행사에 대한 축하, 1인 독재 강조, 미국 비난, 중국특색사회주의 평가 등과 연관된 단어가 높은 빈도로 검색되었다. 둘째, 토픽모델을 이용하여 4개의 주요 토픽을 선정하고 각각 추이를 살펴본 결과, 우선 ‘정책성과’는 2019년 이후 자주 등장하였고 중국의 도농 간의 격차 해소와 관련된 내용이 강조되고 있다. 다음으로 ‘조중친선’은 북중 정상회담, 중국공산당 100주년 기념일과 같은 국가행사를 전후하여 많은 비중을 차지했다. 그리고 ‘사상강조’는 전 기간에 걸쳐 매우 높은 빈도로 보도되고 있는데, 이는 북중간 사상적으로 더욱 긴밀해지는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 마지막으로 ‘대미관계’는 하노이 북미회담 실패 이후 주로 등장하는데, 이는 미국에 대한 실망감과 중국과의 밀착을 보여주는 사례로 볼 수 있다. 분석 결과를 종합해 보면, 북한은 불평등 해소를 강조하는 시진핑 시기의 ‘중국특색사회주의’에 대해 높게 평가하고 있으며, 사상적 측면에서도 동질성이 높다고 평가하는 것으로 보인다. 또한 미중 전략 경쟁과 북미 대화단절이라는 대외환경 속에서 외교적으로 중국과의 관계를 더욱 중시하려는 모습이 나타난다.
